About this Product

4 pairs of N scale wooden bolster equalized passenger trucks of a common design used for short-to medium length cars from the 1850s to 1875 or later. These mount with a common bolster pin, or use the pins included. Modeled after those under Virginia & Truckee car No.9 at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, with iron parts locally made, possibly after a Harlan & Hollingsworth pattern. Although the prototype truck dates to 1873, its construction is no different than those built almost 20 years earlier, excepting the coil springs which were rare before the post-Civil War era of cheap steel. Has a 6 foot wheelbase, outside brakes, and stars on the screw-on journal lids like on the prototype.

Requires 33" wheelsets with .540"/13.70mm length axles (MTL, Fox Valley 3301) and low or MTL new standard profile flanges. A 36" will fit, snugly, but not much used with this design.
Because of their small size and fine detail, Frosted Ultra Detail is the preferred material, others will show varying degrees of surface roughness or not print at all. Clean with alcohol before painting, a cheap ultrasonic cleaner works great. Use toothbrush soaked in Bestine rubber cement remover if particularly greasy. Enamels or acrylics recommended.
Part Number T43p

@TheDallesHostler Great! They are pretty close for the as-built cars but are you sure they used a 6 foot wheelbase? Another UP modeler is using the T57/T58 trucks which both have 5 foot wheelbases, the T58 having an offset mount hole so it won't foul the end steps. The T44 and T45 are 5' versions of the T43 so they might work better for you. T43 measures .830", T44/T45 measures .740" at the extreme. I could order you a mix to sample if you'd like. Contact at panamintmodels@aol.com Thanks.

I AM STOKED!!! These trucks are a dead ringer for the wood frame caboose trucks used by the Union Pacific, and their subsidiaries, on their CA and CA-1 style cabooses. I'll be ordering at least 6 pair in the very near future. Thank you!!!
