London & North Western Railway 6 ton Refrigerator Van, diagram 46, built from 1884 to 1911. Model is based on Earlestown drawings on pages 78 to 81 of “LNWR Wagons Vol 2” and accompanying photograph of no 66217. Some of these vans lasted into LMS days post 1923.
THE MODEL IS PRINTED IN FROSTED ULTRA DETAIL (FUD). It did not print well in the cheaper but lower resolution White Strong & Flexible (WSF) so I withdrew that from sale.
Instructions: Remove any flash with fine scraper & file. Rub roof on flat fine sanding sheet to remove ridges. Drill holes at dimples if necessary. Add short wire handrails to holes in roof and add small rectangles to the rood to represent ice hatches (if required, they were removed later). Add either one or two horsehooks to solebar using wire. Source and fit end ladders to holes provided at each end. Lamp irons could be made from FB strip. Floor is designed for MJT 00/EM/S4 W-iron units at 9’0” wheelbase. LNWR axleboxes and buffers need to be sourced and fitted to match photograph of chosen van. Thoroughly degrease all surfaces before painting.
Livery: LNWR = white body with grey and/or black. Letters black or possibly red.
