THE ORIGINAL adapter that allows for the continued use of the iPhone 5/5s and Apple's universal dock or other accessories that use a standard universal dock connector plate. The Lightning to 30-pin Adapter from Apple is required. In addition to allowing the use of older 30-pin accessories, it raises the iPhone to a comfortable height for using the phone while still docked. There is also a relief to provide easier access to the home button. Finally, the top surface of the adapter provides excellent leverage for removal of the iPhone from the dock. UPDATE: This adapter works great with the iPad mini. See pictures above.

@jdchen the new model should work then. But of course I can't guarantee it since I can't test it myself.

@nginear Its just 1-1.5mm on the back of the case. The bottom of my case doesn't have anything blocking the lightning port

@jdchen I created a new model with the backstop moved back by 1.5mm. You can find it here I did not add any clearance on the bottom of the phone though. Is the case 1.5mm on bottom too? Would the Apple 30-pin to Lightning Adapter fit flush with the bottom of your phone when installed?

so the case is about 1-1.5mm thick. Think it will clear the backstop in its current state?

@jdchen It may, but the stand is designed for a plain iPhone, so there is less than a millimeter between the phone and the backstop. If there was more gap, the backstop wouldn't really serve a purpose. If you sent me your case thickness, I'd be happy to post a new model with that adjustment made.

Hi there, I was interested in getting this adapter for my Bose Sounddock - will this adapter work if I am using a very slim case?
March 11, 2014, 4:26 pm
@nginear ok, I'll try that! Cheers

@magroclark Thanks for the great comment. When designing the dock, I had to leave a little clearance so Apple's 30 pin adapter could actually be pressed through. It took several prototypes to get the clearance just right. Because of that, I am relying on the snap between the 30 pin adapter and the device to mechanically hold the adapter. The snap on Apple's native devices seems to be great, but I have seen it be less firm on other devices. If it continues to release with your device, I would suggest applying a thin double-stick tape or rolled up scotch tape on the face of the 30 pin adapter, and reassemble through dock. It should add a little extra hold.

Hello @nginear, I bought this adapter to use on my bose sound dock with the Lightning to 30 pin adapter and I bought the adapter on apple store, it works perfect together, the dock charges and play music simultaneous. I have only one sugestion. One time when I was disconecting the phone of the sound dock , the phone disconnected with the apple adapter plugged in the phone, only your adapter was still connected at the dock.I think you could try a to fix it in a way that your adapter holds the apple adapter in to it. Cheers!

@etcmiles Thanks! Glad you like it. I don't think I could live without mine.

@nginear what a great product, just what I needed and a perfect example of why 3D printing is the future - who needs Apple to build an official one when we can print them to order. Great job.

Great product - works as promised! Delivery was fast. I'm still waiting for similar product from Flybridge iPhone5 adapter that has taken several months to produce in production. Thank you

See what Apartment Therapy has to say...

@scpotter According to Apple's drawings, the adapter will work with the iPad mini, but not the iPad gen 4. I'd be happy to make a version for the iPad gen 4 if you were interested. Please know I can not verify how the adapter would accommodate the higher CG of the iPad or mini when used with your device.

I'd have to look into the iPad or mini, but my suspicion is that those products might need different depths of the vertical backstop. I'll see what I can find out.

Thanks for making my dreams a reality! I've been looking for this exact thing since the 5 came out to use with my speaker dock, even if this is a bit pricy after buying the lighting adapter too. It look like it might work with the iPad and mini as well, can you confirm?
December 14, 2012, 2:13 pm
Yes, definitely. Just couldn't get a great pic last night when I posted it.

@nginear Great idea! Any chance you could make the photo the default picture? I almost missed it.
