It's a pair of fishing lures, it's a pair of earrings, it's a pair of lurerings! Manufactured and sold in pairs to have matching finishes, lurerings may be configured as fishing lures or earrings depending on what additional parts you purchase in your local sports supply/bait and tackle or hobby/jewelry supply store. The design utilizes the rough resolution of the present Shapeways stainless steel process to create small ridges that emulate scale and light diffraction patterns that might be seen on a bait fish.

Each individual lurering weighs approximately 0.35 ounces. Note that there is a flat platform near the top upon which you could paint an eye using a waterproof paint or nail polish or stick a premolded 1/4 inch decorative eye made for fishing lures. I created the platform for Shapeways to use as the sprue connection point during manufacture but they seem to have decided to instead use a spot on the edge which they then grind down and round to closely follow the original curve of the design file. This isn't necessarily bad since it keeps the platform flat as originally designed.

If you wish to configure your lurering as a fishing lure you will need a couple of #4 (shown in photos) or #5 split rings and a treble hook. A #6 or #8 hook scales nicely with this sized spoon lure. (Photos show #6 feathered and #8 plain treble hooks.)

If you wish to configure your lurering as an earring you will need a jump ring in the top hole and your favorite type of earring hook to hang it from your ear. You can add a tied feather, trinket, or other small charm to the bottom of the lure in the second hole using another jump ring. .

This lurering may also be considered for use as a pendant to be worn on a chain or cord, or for other decorative uses. You'll have to ask someone other than an angler for good fashion advice!
