@HornetPrime That is awesome! I am really happy with it, and I am glad so many others are too!

@lorddragonmaster, I love this thing. I got mine yesterday and I'm still working on painting it, but I thought you'd like to see your work taking pride of place with my TF Prime collection.

@Prime643 WSF is flexible but does have a grainy texture. However if you intend to paint it, do a few coats of an acrylic seal first and then paint it with multiple thin coats. It will be smooth. Your other option is to buy FUD which will be very smooth, but also fragile.

Is the FUD smooth ? hesitant to order. I ordered optimus blades a while back and the texture was horrible, all grainy and rough.

Just got this in today, ordered in White Detail. A little expensive, but still looks great and hardly requires any cleanup! So many nooks and crannies to paint though. >

@purplearms I like both actually. My WSF is the normal grey sword, my FUD is my clear blue blade. ;) FUD has the sharpest detail.
January 15, 2013, 12:53 am
@lorddragonmaster which type do you like better? WSF or FUD?
January 15, 2013, 12:37 am
@lorddragonmaster Thank you for the quick reply. As soon as I recoup from the holidays I'll order one of these bad boys.

@Weapon84 I have only tested WSF and FUD. The painted one is WSF
December 28, 2012, 4:17 am
@lorddragonmaster I have never bought a shapeways product and curious about the options. How different are WSF and White Detail? Which one is the painted sword?
December 28, 2012, 1:29 am
@Solus13 Actually someone else it making it! You can find them at @ChristianA I bought all the paint from a art store in my city called De Serres (

are you going to try a dark star saber as well?
December 20, 2012, 5:51 pm
@lorddragonmaster This sword is INCREDIBLE! Where did you buy the paint? Could be helpful to provide a link to where others (such as @arcflash81) could purchase it.

Empire Gold, Walnut, Black & White.

I am glad you liked it! I painted it with the following colours: Empire Gold Walnut White Black - The blade was painted with a mix of black and white to get a nice light grey. - The handle was painted with a darker grey with a small amount of walnut mixed in to give it a grey/brown colour -details gold!

I got my star saber today, took awhile for them to get it out, but it was worth the wait. I love it. Prime looks fantastic with it. I slipped it into his backpack to have it hang off his back like in the show. Really looks great. Absolutely fantastic piece that adds a lot to the figure. Since I was at it already with the saber, I also had new smoke stacks shipped out to replace the rubber ones. This is a great combo - saber and stacks. I will be doing both again for my second FE prime soon. Lorddragonmaster - what colors did you use to paint the one pictured if you don't mind me asking?

Not so far. ;)

Has anyone tried this in steel? I'm tempted out of curiosity .

I am glad you like the Star Saber, and while I have a painted one, I do enjoy the clean and crisp look of a pure white one. The handle was made just slightly smaller than the hole and optimus's hand. (the handle is 4.9mm, hand and hole are 5mm. Any prototype that was printed at 5mm for each was always printed to big or would leave stress marks in optimus's hands. Any paint more that makes up for the 0.1mm difference. However if you still want to leave it white, use clear nail polish on the hole. Just add a dab and rub the part together till it it dries. It is the most popular method for tightening up Transformer joints. ;)

I just got my Star Saber a little while ago and I have to say that I am very pleased with the outcome. It feels like it is straight out of the show with the amount of detail it has. Keeping it in white looks just fine but a good paint job will really make this piece stand out. To those of you that are going to buy it as well just know that after you wash the pieces the hand will not be able to fit into the hole at the bottom of the hilt snugly. You can easily fix this problem by putting 2 pieces of scotch tape at the top of the handle to make a tight fit like I did and putting a little tape down the rest of the handle will allow the figures like FE prime to hold it more securely. But if you intend to paint this piece I'm sure that the coating of the paint will fix this problem. ^_^

Ah okay. Thanks a lot!

The Forge has actually already been made on shapeway, though I might consider the phase shifter. The question is what figure should it be made for? As for smoothness, I didn't sand it, I coated it with an acrylic sealer (just an all purpose one for painting prep) and then painted it with 3 thin coats. Not pictured, but I did then spray it with semi-gloss. Feels pretty smooth.
November 16, 2012, 1:20 pm
any chance you will make the phase shifter? or the Forge of Solus Prime?
November 16, 2012, 3:55 am
Hi. Can you please tell me how you got the sword to look so smooth. I just ordered it and would love it to come out like yours here. I know that the unpolished version of WSF is a bit rough and your painted picture of it makes it look like it was the polished version. Did you sand it? Thanks

Sorry, I am only interested in weapons/relics for the TF Prime line at the moment.
