Because of the nature of 3d printing, the material may feel a little rough to the touch. They come out mostly smooth with a slightly rough texture, so I would not suggest putting these into any new or healing piercing. I have had my ears pierced for years now and have been at this gauge for just over a year, and they feel fine in my ears, even keeping them in all day. She is wearing 00 gauge silicon tunnels, which just hold the hole open and are extremely thin and they fit perfectly in those (and silicon tunnels can be found almost anywhere that sells body jewelry), but I have worn mine just by themselves with nothing covering the exterior.
