I designed this candle holder with a groundplate to catch the wax drops...
You are right, the snowflakes are 2.5mm thick. When I created this design (november 2009), I wasn't aware of all possibilities of metal printing. I made a design choice to maximize the chances to get a printable model...

Also I would suggest using a light-blue candle for your photos here ;)

A second turn would look great.
To save Volume you could use a spike instead of a Groundplate.
Also the snowflakes here are about 2.5mm thick I presume.
How about making them a little thinner?
The heavy interconectedness should make it stable enogh for print.
