The Sword Class of Battleship/Carriers were authorized under the 1894 Royal Navy Air Forces Act to be the new “Capital” ship for the Royal Navy, and replace the disgraced Aerial Sovereign class. The Swords were designed immediately after the Priest class and shared some design elements with that class, such as the compound steel/aluminum armor. Unlike the Priest, it was not a hybrid, but a pure Aerolyth ship.
