@letamino I do not have any other photos at this time of different materials. However, if you look at my Deathly Hallows Dice you'll see a photo of Black Strong and Flexible (the photo with the red background). Generally, in order to make the plastics really readable you need to do a little DIY with paint or rub'n'buff. @avandius Avandius Good morning, thanks for the quick reply, I have some questions for you. Before you buy a set of steel and spend more than 70 €, I would try with other types and I wanted to know what type of material they are and if you can have some image of dice not steel: White Strong & Flexible White Strong & Flexible Polished Black Strong & Flexible Coral Red Strong & Flexible Polished Violet Purple Strong & Flexible Polished Thank you in advance for your kindness.

@letamino Hello Letamino, the set in the photo above is Stainless Steel. There are no plastic parts. However, you can order in plastic and it will be significantly cheaper. The metal ones are definitely worth it if you can afford them. :)

One question, what material you are using in addition to the metal? Plastic or other materials? The set that costs less than what material is it made? Thank you.

@Tomorian_Mayhem you just made my day! :)

Ordered a couple of sets of these dice in the antique bronze matte. Received them today and, whoa, I am not disappointed! The detail is incredible, every number is clear as a bell, the weight feels good and, on top of everything else, they look simply fantastic. Bravo Avandius on a great design, I will be singing your praises to any gamer I meet.

@TheKeeblaElf Correct, matte is a bit duller looking, less shiny. Apologies that I don't have more photos on hand. I hope to get some more from customers. Take a look at the materials page and you can see the difference between matt and glossy gold: http://www.shapeways.com/materials/steel

Ya I noticed there was that set (Steampunk Dice Set) then this set (Steampunk Gear Dice Set). This one looked a bit better to fit the theme lol. My question is just Matte is more of a dull gold then glossy correct? Was wondering if anyone who has purchased had pictures for comparison.

@TheKeeblaElf Have you checked out the other Steampunk Dice? http://www.shapeways.com/model/267913/steampunk-dice-set.html?li=moreFromShop&material=6

Has anyone purchased the Gold Plated Matte that can post a picture? I'm setting up a display corner for Elder Scrolls. I have statues, coins, and posters. These would be amazing as a piece of dwarven gear theme! I know i'm a nerd =P, but back to my main question, whats golden matte look like lol? Thanks so much

@Karemagic Awesome! You won't be disappointed. :) Make sure to clean them up (remove any bits of materials stuck in the joints) and send some photos my way! Cheers.

@Eto_Zamamai No problem Eto! Sent some photos I'd love to see them in gold myself! :)

I ordered this item in gold plated glossy, it arrived in unblemished glistening beauty. Truly a wonderful piece, well designed and seemingly well balanced, I would recommend these dice for any gamer. Thank you avandius for creating such a unique item.

@GearHound Polished does look much smoother. Check out the material page for some comparison photos: http://www.shapeways.com/materials/strong-flexible

Hello, I was just wondering what the difference was between the White Strong & Flexible and the Polished version of that? Does the Polished look less rough?

@ChristianA vc ja comprou por aqui? achei muito interessante a comunidade, mas fiquei com receio quanto a compra e entrega no Brasil. Infelizmente no Brasil não há apoio a designers independentes

Hello Mamullis, I've responded to your private message. :) Looks like the website design for picking materials to print in was not user friendly. Contact Shapeways directly to file an official complaint. Apologies for the negative shopping experience.

They are not metal in anyways not as the video or pictured show im very unsatisfied i got them for my gf who is doing a steampunk game and im very dissapointed. @cooperanimation It says they are designed for steel and may not be ideal for rolling on my main page. They are more detailed than the steel in terms of printer limitations, it's just hard to see it because they are a solid color without accents. Give the painting a try. :) 3dprinting is a trending technology, most things on the website in plastics are a bit cheap feeling because it's a lightweight material (but are VERY VERY strong), in time, I'm sure you'll find the quality you are looking for on Shapeways.
December 22, 2012, 5:45 am
@EnderWiggin i understand what you're saying, but if the plastics are not "ideal" then why offer them? no where in there did it say plastics will not come out right, and your dice will be cheap and unreadable. i really feel ripped off.
December 22, 2012, 2:55 am
@cooperanimation Dice in general don't look very good in plastics out of the box as Avandius stated. I've actually seen the DiY paint/rub n' buff dice sets (he posted some a while back, I can't seem to find them any more) but they looked awesome, and I very much recomend doing something similar. Also note that all of the images that are attached are in stainless steal, this is the ideal material to print dice in, and you will get much similar results. Since the actual printing process for plastics is entirely different than metals, your results may not look quite the same. Another thing to keep in mind is that every print isn't going to be exactly the same so sometimes results may very. If you are unsatisfied, I'm sure shapeways will work with you. However this is NOT avandius's fault, I know for a fact his dice are very well thought out and designed.

Hello cooperanimation, sorry for your negative experience. If there is a defect in the set you recieved please contact Shapeways here. http://www.shapeways.com/contact/contact_form_customer_service?email_to=service@Shapeways.com Plastics can be very hard to read because it's all one color and a matt finish. The best way to make them look great is a little DIY with paint or rub'n'buff. The steels turn out much better (what they are designed for). Take a look at the Deathy Hallows BSF set (red background) to see what you can do with a little rub'n'buff. http://www.shapeways.com/model/283955/deathly-hallows-dice-set.html?li=productBox-search

Just got my dice tonight. I got them for my son for his birthday. I am not even a little bit impressed. They cost me an extra 15 bucks when the ups dropped them off, the cuts on the dice themselves are not done right in the least. you can BARELY make out the number. I am not at all happy with this product. they do NOT look like what you see pictured. they look and feel like they are out of a happy meal.

I chose this dice set over the other gear dice set featured on Shapeways. I decided to get the MATTE BRONZE METAL as a Christmas gift. My boyfriend runs a steampunk game using the Brass and Steel gaming system. I thought the set would be a unique feature and gift. When he opened the box (I gave them to him at the last game before Christmas) he got so excited and immediately started showing them off. Everyone was impressed by the size and weight of the metal. My boyfriend decided they were too fantastic to put them in with his other dice, so another dice bag had to be purchased just for these dice. These dice are a good size, good weight, fantastic WOW factor. I'm so glad I found this set. Shapeways and Avandius has one VERY satisfied customer.

It's a type of plastic extremely high in detail but also slightly transparent. It's not as resilent as the other materials types but will still hold up for dice purposes. For more information check out the material information page for FUD: http://www.shapeways.com/materials/frosted-detail
December 13, 2012, 7:34 pm
Stupid question, but what is "frosted ultra detail"?
