Little update for anyone who is thinking of getting these. Per Wombat's suggestion, I picked up some black gesso canvas primer. The stuff is like black glue/paint. It sticks really well. Did a few quick coats last night, then spent a bit of time today scratching the raised points off with a finger nail. It was super easy, didn't take much time, and the result looks great, I think: http://brainalien.com/images/IMG_1236.JPG
Just got these and am really excited. They are slightly smaller and lighter than I imagined - but that's not a bad thing. They actually have the same weight and feel as your standard polyhedral dice. I had been a bit concerned about throwing a bunch of heavy bits of metal on my GM's table (another reason why I opted for these over the thorn dice). But I can see that won't be a problem. Can't wait to paint them to achieve the look in the photos. Thanks Ceramic Wombat for making these great designs, and thanks shapeways for getting them to be a full 8 days ahead of schedule!
You can "ink" metal to give it an antiqued finish. My mom sometimes rubs a special type of India Ink on her silver jewelery, and lets it dry. Then she gently rubs off the jewelery with a polishing cloth to remove the excess. This leaves a rich black color in the cracks. It is a very simple process.

Then if for some reason, you don't like the look of it, you can always wash the ink away with paint thinner.
The dice do not come inked. I have only ordered dice in stainless steel and transparent detail. A few pictures of the dice in transparent detail are on the Die20 and Circle Themed Die6 pages.
So... I think I'm confused. The description under the photo says "Dice set in stainless steel and inked." But that's not for $21.01, correct. It's $70 for the stainless steel versions? Very cool looking dice, but I thought $21 was expensive for dice. :) It would be nice to see photos of all the choices, with labels, otherwise we have no idea what we're buying here.
Very cool looking. I'd like to see a set that included two d10's, one preferably with a different ink color, for % rolls. Or, if that's not possible, other identical sets with a different ink colors.
And thanks for the comment!
Yes, they are hollow to bring the price down a bit.
Very nice! I like the way you've done the edges. I would buy a set but in stainless they're a bit too pricey for my blood. Tell me - are these hollow? Seems like you ought to be able to use the edge ornamentation to allow that.
