Product Description

RotoPrism 2 won a jury honorable mention award at the 2012 International Puzzle Party Nob Yoshigahara Puzzle Design Competition.

RotoPrism 2 is a "bandaged" puzzle with three axes of rotation, based on the geometry of the triangular dipyramid. It is a lower order version of my RotoPrism 3 puzzle, which is in turn a shape modification of my Fracture-6 puzzle. The three axes are located at the center of each face around the equator of the puzzle. Every axis is capable of turning in 90 degree increments, but only when there are no triangular pieces on that face, otherwise the axis will be limited to 180 degree turns. This bandaging makes RotoPrism 2 very difficult to solve. RotoPrism 2 is also the only known puzzle geometry that is cut deeper than the origin. Please watch the video for a full explanation of this interesting property.

RotoPrism 2 comes as a DIY kit of parts, and you will need to supply your own stickers. The templates for the stickers are available in the instructions forum.

I recommend that unless you are familiar with the process of dyeing these parts, you purchase the puzzle in "Black Strong & Flexible". It costs a bit more than the white material, but it's worth it since the finished puzzle will look and work better. RotoPrism 2 also requires screws and springs to assemble. These can be purchased through a few different online puzzle sellers. The springs I used came from this shop. You'll need three of the springs, combined with three 12mm M3 screws, which you'll need to purchase separately. Also, please be aware that this puzzle is designed so that the parts fit together very tightly. When assembling the puzzle you'll need to "break in" the core to make sure it is turning smoothly before finishing the assembly with the outer parts. Once it's all together it will turn very smoothly, as you can see in the video demonstration. I also made a tutorial video if you need help with the assembly.

Have fun!
