Any news on the led version by now?

June 13, 2014, 3:54 am
what is the software used to make this ring?
April 21, 2014, 11:56 pm
This is really cool!
March 6, 2014, 3:50 pm
@tuckerchapin that looks good!
December 20, 2013, 4:00 am
Sorry, another question. For the material types, is there a steel option that will come out silver? The gold and the bronze options don't sound like they'll look that great and the silver ones are a bit out of my price range.
December 3, 2013, 3:27 am
Love this, and fully intend to order it soon! I was wondering if. with all of the requests for color and such, you've considered breaking it into two or three pieces that could be combined, ie the center black and yellow bit being one piece, the white housing being another, and the ring part being yet another? just curious because it would give people the capacity to have it come in full color and look like GLaDOS.
December 3, 2013, 3:24 am
@QUATRO so is it possible to buy rings with the ring size of 14? It would make me really happy to know this :)
October 10, 2013, 8:00 pm
Love this.
September 22, 2013, 6:49 pm
It's the "eye" painted?
August 7, 2013, 1:30 pm
@HappyQuails I'm sorry for the confusion, however shapeways is a 3D printing service and they do not put electronics in the prints. Having a look at the 360 view and the solid color rendering as well as the fact that an LED was not mentioned anywhere should have been sufficient?
July 20, 2013, 10:24 am
Why do you show a product ( with LED) which is not available? This is the only thing that drew me to this design and if I had been trusting and expected to get what was shown I could have placed an order without knowing that it would be lacking the one thing that attracted me to the ring.
July 20, 2013, 5:34 am
@MERB Hi! Thank you for your interest in my design :) To be honest, I am as much a traditional artist as I am a ballerina, so I would strongly recommend visiting your local hobby shop and asking the guys there - they will know this stuff much better than I ever will :)
June 27, 2013, 12:26 am
@QUATRO Hey, just ordered your ring in white detail, I'm aware I have to paint it myself, but are there any brands/types of paint you would reccomend?
June 26, 2013, 11:27 pm
@JPuentes88 That's something new... Never heard of it. Maybe try a different browser? If the problem persists, I suggest contacting customer support so they can sort it out for you.
June 3, 2013, 9:32 pm
@QUATRO Sorry for the delay in responding but, I was looking at getting this ring in Stainless Steel or Antique Bronze in Size 11. After selecting my options, that's when the error displayed. Thanks for looking into this issue
June 3, 2013, 6:28 pm
@JPuentes88 Hi! I'm sorry you're having difficulties ordering. Would you be able to PM me the details of what material and when you tried to order? I'll have a look and get back to you with more info ASAP. If the issue is out of my control, you'll then have to contact Shapeways customer support team.
June 1, 2013, 2:17 am
How do you go about ordering a product? It seems that I keep receiving "Your model could not be saved. Please try again." Any help with this issue....?
May 31, 2013, 4:52 pm
@matrixfreeck no. It comes in a texture/color of the material you choose.
May 16, 2013, 12:21 am
@QUATRO can you answer with a yes or no answer here. the picture above has the ring in white black and yellow. does it come like.
May 15, 2013, 4:23 pm
@Kateinator Hi :) As mentioned in the description, it comes in the color of the material chosen, so any additional painting would have to be done yourself.
May 7, 2013, 2:00 pm
@QUATRO: I was wondering, does the ring come painted with white, black and yellow? or does it have to be panted yourself?
May 4, 2013, 5:30 pm
@Revenant256 @TheGamingArt I must point out that these are issues with Shapeways, not the designer. We as designers upload 3D files, and Shapeways provides the equipment and expertise to use 3D printers to create them. Any issues you experience are sorted with Shapeways staff, not the person who created the 3D file. If there is a problem with your order, we are notified that we've 'Sold models that could not be printed', but we are not provided with your name, e-mail, or anything at all.
April 19, 2013, 2:48 am
any news on the led version of this ring? I was taking a look around and found CAD version with leds, but it didn't have a backing to keep conponents in place
April 12, 2013, 1:36 pm
@Revenant256 Hi! Sorry you're having these difficulties. It really doesn't look that bad from what I see in the pictures (but it just might be me). You see, the printing process for steel is not casting (like silver, which is why silver looks very nice and shiny) but rather printing in steel dust and then 'cooking' the print to melt and solidify it, hence the pitted 'rusty' texture. This is nothing a bit of cleaning won't fix really. I suggest rubbing the inside of the ring with fine grade steel wool or very fine grade sandpaper (a piece of old jeans fabric can work too) to remove excess iron particles that may stick to your finger. Same can be done for other parts to give it a bit of clean-up. Or you can use a dremel tool with a polishing tip for best results if you happen to have one. I used to wear copper rings that would turn my finger green, but a bit of polishing would always fix the problem. Worst case scenario, if you are really unsatisfied - please contact Shapeways customer service so they can help you sort things out.

I too was very excited at the prospect of receiving a wonderful and shiny stainless steel version of the GLaDOS ring. I spent nearly $50 between the ring and shipping, and an additional $14.50 charge by ups upon delivery. When I opened the box with my ring inside, I was disappointed to discover that unlike the shiny, pristine steel ring I was expecting, it was scored and pitted, with rust on the inner side of the ring, as if it were made from poor quality or even recycled materials. I wore the ring for less than an hour and it had begun to turn my finger brown -- something no steel ring I've ever worn has ever done. I have the ring sitting in front of my monitor now, but I'm disappointed to say that I will not wear it, which is unfortunate because I adore the look of the ring. I was originally excited in the prospect of receiving this item. When purchasing the ring I was prompted with an insane wait time of over a month. This seemed alright with me at the time, as this ring was going to be an anniversary present for my loved one. After being charged for the object mentioned, weeks later I was notified via email the email below. Not only was I pre noted about a long wait period for this product, but I was sent a message noting that my order was cancelled after being charged because that the co-creator model was not uploaded. Fortunately, the site has been accommodating with changing my accredited amount for this ring into a full fledge refund, but with the lack of communication from the actual seller, this is highly disappointing.
February 26, 2013, 7:17 pm
@QUATRO Are you still planning to put up photos of the item?
February 11, 2013, 6:11 pm
@pmnyx yeah, no problem
February 11, 2013, 12:24 am
@QUATRO would you be able to do an 18.6mm?
February 11, 2013, 12:13 am
@pmnyx If you require a specific diameter, like 21mm, I can do it for you with no problem. Just be sure to include that in the customization field :)
February 10, 2013, 11:23 pm
Hey Quatro, I was just wondering if you are able to do half sizes?
February 10, 2013, 10:08 pm
@FishWho Shapeways does 3D printing, not electronics. For an LED version I'd have to modify the design to include the LED, a battery compartment and so on and sell the assemblies on ETSY or something... Maybe in time :)
February 10, 2013, 3:53 pm
@QUATRO Will you ever offer it with LED again? Looks so awesome by the way!
February 10, 2013, 6:21 am
@BarnacleDrive Hi! The picture is a 3D rendering of it. The ring would come in a single color, based on the material you choose. I will most likely publish a photo of the silver version soon :)
February 9, 2013, 11:59 pm
Which material is shown in the picture?
February 9, 2013, 9:14 pm
@FishWho The original design did have a light, but the shapeways product does not come with it.
February 2, 2013, 6:42 am
Is that some sort of a LED Light or something inside the ring? Or what am I seeing there?
February 2, 2013, 3:46 am
@QUATRO can shapeways do a size 6?
February 1, 2013, 1:08 am
@Vesteris Well, shapeways charges for volume and with size 14 - volume increases too. I'll contact them to see if I can pull this off for you with no extra cost.
January 30, 2013, 4:52 pm
An chance of a size 14 becoming available? Curse my giant hands.
January 30, 2013, 8:30 am
@duann Heh, THANKS! I never even realized that :)

awesome *_*
December 1, 2012, 11:33 pm
Yes, he's right. I' m interested too to a Ring like on picture
October 16, 2012, 2:15 pm
i was wondering if it would be ok to make a bracelet somewhat like your ring
August 16, 2012, 2:29 am
To say that the ring I got can be given the detail painting like that pictured would be a ... lie. Honestly the ring I received should be 1/3 the price.
May 1, 2012, 9:56 pm
wait is the white detail one plastic or metal?
April 9, 2012, 5:29 am
This is way cool.
March 8, 2012, 10:32 pm
Alrighty awesome! I actually did that a few hours before I made this first comment. I haven't had the email from them yet but I really want that GLaDOS ring!
February 28, 2012, 3:59 am
Hello, Benjamin! Unfortunately, I have already set it as size 10 and cannot change it. There is a way, though. Just contact the customer support and they will be happy to help you out here. Really friendly guys, they will sort it out for you. As far as I'm concerned, they will probably cancel the order for you and you will be able to order again :)
February 28, 2012, 3:29 am
I wanted to ask if I could change my ring size real quick. I ordered a 10 but it really needs to be a 12 because 10 is gonna be too small! Anyway you can help me out?
February 27, 2012, 9:28 pm
I will add them as soon as I can, but this may take a while. Sorry for the inconvenience
February 22, 2012, 2:10 am
hey, could it be possible to see some actual photos of the ring? i'am about to purchase it but i'd like to see it :) thank you!
February 21, 2012, 9:12 pm
I'll see what I can do :P Drop men an email so I remember to get back to you once I measure everything. It's late here (2:27 AM) so I need some shut-eye :D
February 14, 2012, 2:27 am
@QUATRO I have a ring that's just short of being an inch wide from base to knuckle, and is a good thickness to the interior. it's a basic solid silver with a ruby embedded. so it's possible. just saying :)
February 14, 2012, 2:20 am
@ JBarendt Sadly, I think it wouldjust be too thin :( BUT! You can also try taking a look at my new pendant: http://shpws.me/3NxX
February 14, 2012, 1:47 am
i'm a size 6.5 :( it's disappointing you don't carry anything smaller then an 8.
February 14, 2012, 1:40 am
This is amazing
February 8, 2012, 12:05 am
Adding some custom paint is always possible doing yourself, however I personally prefer steel and silver with no paint :)
February 7, 2012, 11:57 am
So no black/yellow detailing?
February 7, 2012, 11:50 am
A working LED is impossible at this time, sorry. Please read the description carefully! :) The ring comes in silver, steel, plated steel and plastic, however only in one color. I have been informed by the manufacturers that color sandstone is not exactly suitable for rings as it is quite brittle, so I suggest a steel one for best durability and sleek looks. I will post photos later on :)
February 7, 2012, 10:26 am
What is the material used for this ring? Also does this really have a working LED? Can the LED be replaced with a purple and/or blue?
February 7, 2012, 10:17 am
Hello ToySoldierMango! As the description states, for now these are available in solid colors and materials (meaning one piece). I had to take this route to have the maximum durability as colored sandstone is quite brittle. I am searching for a way to get colors AND durability. In any case, I personally would not paint over steel or silver, but that just might be my own preference :D
February 7, 2012, 9:40 am
So, if ordered, will it look exactly like the picture?
February 7, 2012, 4:53 am
