@Kateinator Hi :) As mentioned in the description, it comes in the color of the material chosen, so any additional painting would have to be done yourself.

@Revenant256 @TheGamingArt I must point out that these are issues with Shapeways, not the designer. We as designers upload 3D files, and Shapeways provides the equipment and expertise to use 3D printers to create them. Any issues you experience are sorted with Shapeways staff, not the person who created the 3D file. If there is a problem with your order, we are notified that we've 'Sold models that could not be printed', but we are not provided with your name, e-mail, or anything at all.

any news on the led version of this ring? I was taking a look around and found CAD version with leds, but it didn't have a backing to keep conponents in place

@Revenant256 Hi! Sorry you're having these difficulties. It really doesn't look that bad from what I see in the pictures (but it just might be me). You see, the printing process for steel is not casting (like silver, which is why silver looks very nice and shiny) but rather printing in steel dust and then 'cooking' the print to melt and solidify it, hence the pitted 'rusty' texture. This is nothing a bit of cleaning won't fix really. I suggest rubbing the inside of the ring with fine grade steel wool or very fine grade sandpaper (a piece of old jeans fabric can work too) to remove excess iron particles that may stick to your finger. Same can be done for other parts to give it a bit of clean-up. Or you can use a dremel tool with a polishing tip for best results if you happen to have one. I used to wear copper rings that would turn my finger green, but a bit of polishing would always fix the problem. Worst case scenario, if you are really unsatisfied - please contact Shapeways customer service so they can help you sort things out.

I too was very excited at the prospect of receiving a wonderful and shiny stainless steel version of the GLaDOS ring. I spent nearly $50 between the ring and shipping, and an additional $14.50 charge by ups upon delivery. When I opened the box with my ring inside, I was disappointed to discover that unlike the shiny, pristine steel ring I was expecting, it was scored and pitted, with rust on the inner side of the ring, as if it were made from poor quality or even recycled materials. I wore the ring for less than an hour and it had begun to turn my finger brown -- something no steel ring I've ever worn has ever done. I have the ring sitting in front of my monitor now, but I'm disappointed to say that I will not wear it, which is unfortunate because I adore the look of the ring. I was originally excited in the prospect of receiving this item. When purchasing the ring I was prompted with an insane wait time of over a month. This seemed alright with me at the time, as this ring was going to be an anniversary present for my loved one. After being charged for the object mentioned, weeks later I was notified via email the email below. Not only was I pre noted about a long wait period for this product, but I was sent a message noting that my order was cancelled after being charged because that the co-creator model was not uploaded. Fortunately, the site has been accommodating with changing my accredited amount for this ring into a full fledge refund, but with the lack of communication from the actual seller, this is highly disappointing.

@FishWho Shapeways does 3D printing, not electronics. For an LED version I'd have to modify the design to include the LED, a battery compartment and so on and sell the assemblies on ETSY or something... Maybe in time :)

Hello, Benjamin! Unfortunately, I have already set it as size 10 and cannot change it. There is a way, though. Just contact the customer support and they will be happy to help you out here. Really friendly guys, they will sort it out for you. As far as I'm concerned, they will probably cancel the order for you and you will be able to order again :)

@QUATRO I have a ring that's just short of being an inch wide from base to knuckle, and is a good thickness to the interior. it's a basic solid silver with a ruby embedded. so it's possible. just saying :)

Adding some custom paint is always possible doing yourself, however I personally prefer steel and silver with no paint :)

A working LED is impossible at this time, sorry. Please read the description carefully! :) The ring comes in silver, steel, plated steel and plastic, however only in one color. I have been informed by the manufacturers that color sandstone is not exactly suitable for rings as it is quite brittle, so I suggest a steel one for best durability and sleek looks. I will post photos later on :)

What is the material used for this ring? Also does this really have a working LED? Can the LED be replaced with a purple and/or blue?

Hello ToySoldierMango! As the description states, for now these are available in solid colors and materials (meaning one piece). I had to take this route to have the maximum durability as colored sandstone is quite brittle. I am searching for a way to get colors AND durability. In any case, I personally would not paint over steel or silver, but that just might be my own preference :D
