3d Model Viewer

About this Product

The little filigree 3d printed skull that became the #1 most funded Sculpture project in Kickstarter history & an icon of the 3D printed medium. The piece marks the 1st application of Joshua’s surrealist automatism technique to representational form. It gives a new identity to the shape & invites the viewer to discover the form through the gentle visual lead of the pattern. This has been an exploration in how 2D images & designs can change the interpretation of 3D form & geometry. Representing the passing of an era & the ever growing renewal over the ghost of the past, the skull symbolized the end of Joshua’s commitment to traditional means of making & selling art while the filigree pattern represents the creative exploration of a new medium & ways to share his work.

Without a doubt the most fascinating thing on Shapeways. My pockets, unfortunately, are just not deep enough.

Not to send you away from my Shapewasy shop but I do offer various limited edition & hand painted versions of this piece through my webstore @ www.joshharker.com. They come with handmade wooden collector's boxes & certificates of authenticity. I do not offer them here because I am unable to provide the extras or control quantity sold. The geometry does not lend itself to printing in the metals offered by Shapeways but I am just recently setting up for a lifesize or larger cast bronze edition. Contact me directly if you have interest or questions at "info@joshharker.com"...THANKS!

I love this and will order. I agree it's art and would love to see it in more expensive material, maybe in a signed or marked edition?

Love it! Just totally love how beautiful and elegant the cut-out patterns are. It is such an interesting intersection between the morbidity of death and the delicate and fluid beauty of the swirls...

One of the coolest sculptures I've seen in a long time! Great job.

Now available as necklace pendant in in silver. ..check my shop. The card suits kind of designed themselves into the piece. The heart & diamond occurred naturally so I went with it & added the other 2.
March 15, 2012, 3:05 pm
Very nice! But why the card suits on the skull?
March 13, 2012, 9:47 pm
need to make that into a necklace!
