Product Description
The M65 280mm Gun System, better known as "Atomic Annie", was designed to fire the W-9 15kt Nuclear Warhead with the Projectile Typ T124, additional a conventional Projectile could be used. The Maximum firing range was around 20 Miles. These Guns should be used against enemy comand- and comunication Centers, heavy artillery sites and fortifications. The Design of the Gun was influenced by the German 280mm Railway Gun K5, (Anzio Annie). Between 1951 and 1953 20 Gun Systems are produced. Only one time a real nuclear warhead was fired in 1953 in Nevada. 16 of these Guns saw Service in Germany, the others are placed in Korea. Their duty finished quickly after a few years with the development of the new rocket Systems like Honest John and Pershing. 8 of these Guns are survived until today on Display. The complete M65 Gun System consisting the T131 280mm Gun, the T72 Gun Mount, and the two Tractors M249 (Front) and M250 (Rear). This model consisting the complete M65 Gun System in travelling mode.

Das M65 280mm Kanonensystem, besser bekannt als "Atomic Annie", wurde zum verfeuern des Atom-Gefechtskopfes W-9 in der Granate T124 konzipiert. Zusätzlich konnten auch konventionelle Granaten verfeuert werden. Die maximale Reichweite des Geschützes betrug nur 35-40km. Zum Einsatz kommen sollte es zur Bekämpfung feindlicher Kommando- und Kommunikationszentren, Langstrecken-Artillerie und Befestigungen. Das Design des Geschützes wurde stark vom deutschen Eisenbahngeschütz K5 Leopold (Anzio Annie) beeinflusst. Zwischen 1951- 1953 wurden insgesammt 20 Systeme gebaut. Nur ein einziges mal wurde ein Atom-Geschoss wirklich verfeuert, 1953 in Nevada. 16 dieser Kanonen wurden in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland stationiert, die anderen in Korea. Nach nur kurzer Dienstzeit wurden die Kanonen durch neu entwickelte Raketensysteme wie Honest John und Pershing ersetzt. 8 dieser Kanonen sind in Austellungen und Museen erhalten geblieben. Das komplette M65 Geschützsystem besteht aus dem T131 280mm Geschutz, der M72 Lafette und den M249 (Front) und M250 (Heck) Zugmaschinen. Diese Set beinhaltet ein komplettes M65 Geschützsystem in Transportstellung
