@AberZombie The plastic material they use is very pourous and will absorb the paint if it's waterbased/ink. I would use Rub'n'buff to paint them since it's more wax based and should go on smoothly. You may need to clear coat it afterwards to prevent it from rubbing off. :) I'd love to see a photo when you are done!

@avandius i think i was just a little rash when getting them because of my own stupidity. I really like the design and my girlfriend is going to attempt to paint them, she is more skilled than me at painting. is there a good kind of paint to use?

@AberZombie Hello AberZombie, apologies for the confusion with the Alumide set, I'll update the photo description to help avoid future confusion. Regarding their fragile state, this is incorrect. They FEEL fragile, I know exactly what you mean, but you would probably need a hammer to actually break them. They are deceptively strong. If you use a little paint to touch up the letters, they can look great. Check out the photo I have above of BSF (red background) which is done with rub'n'buff.

I bought these with the alumide finish and apon rereading the cite realized they didn't come painted black they are a dull gray, the pictures are very desiving. They are so light and fragile looking that i am afraid to put them in my dice bag. i specifically emailed them asking if they can be used as actual dice or if they are decoration, not looking to pay 30 dollars for useless dice, and they assured me they would work as dice but they are so light that even rolling them seems like it could break them or they wont roll correctly. I am not happy at all, maybe the more expensive gold finished ones work better but i wont be ordering anything from this site again. Only buy for decoration.

Would it be possible to order these in 35 mm - or perhaps double size? And in sterling - or equivalent?

I ordered a set of these in alumide, dyed them black, and painted the numbers using silver Testor's enamel. Very pleased! http://www.shapeways.com/forum/index.php?t=msg&th=7561&start=0&

I bought these in Frosted Ultra Detail and I am not pleased you cannot read the dice at all. They would not work well for RPGing

The Dice on the pictures are printed with which material?

To my knowledge, D4's can go either way as gythawen stated. Sense they don't really roll like say a D6... they basicly just land on the table and stop. So it's more of a asthetic/artistic choice rather than a functional one.

I'm not too much in this harry potter thing but love your design. Very neat!
