The Mobius Hexagon Linkage in Red Strong and Flexible (an actual photograph of the real printed object!)
This unusual, seemingly impossible model is an example of a mobius-like structure, but with linkages connecting it-- tying and locking it to itself. the structure has 22 links, which are flexible enough so that the model can be warped slightly, allowing the linkages to come into contact with their neighbors, and showing the way in which they are non-trivially intertwined. The crossection is hexagonal, with opposite corners joining in a cyclic pattern. The model also has an alluring organic appeal, almost evoking a reminiscence of Salvador Dali. I made the model as hollow as possible without compromising structural integrity or taking away from the desired rigidness of the structure, so the model has a much higher value than would be expected from a model of its size. For fun, I added a tiny pinhole-sized puncture in a discreet place which serves as a tunnel to the inner cavern I had carved out. This hole is not noticable unless you're really searching for it, but I still enjoy making a game out of finding it. It's also fun to try to imagine being an ant entering such a hole and wandering the hollow inside of this model.
