Yes, it can spin, but not so well because at each vertex you have 2 points of contacts. I had no idea of the shape it would give if plunged into a bubblebath, but as I am curious, I tried. The result is... an octahedron! The only particular thing is that this octahedron is actually made of 2 identical surfaces: I cannot take a proper picture of this surface so I put a CGI rendering of an object derivated from the Octawire (and that I plan to print later) that has the same shape: see the last rendering, the blue one.

Pretty cool, I bet it spins like a top well. What shape would be created if you dip it in a bubble bath?
