@MattAlexNewman: the ring doesn't have any tinting to the engraving, but it is naturally a bit darker due to it being unable to be polished after printing... the engraving is darker on the stainless steel version and is lighter on the sterling silver glossy version. so if you want it closest to the game youd probably be better off with the stainless steel one...hope that helps

Hey There, I was thinking of ordering either the stainless steel ring or the silver ring but was wondering, on the official ring and the one in the game, the letters engraved on the inside and out seem to have a sort of black tint to them, as if filled in with some. Weather this is just how deep the engraving is Im unsure, but it does just look like some sort of paint has been put into the engraving or something. And then my problem.... finally. Well in some of the photos it looks like the engraving is tinted, where in some other it doesn't. I guess my question is, is the ring plain, or does it have some sort of paint or color on the side of it? I just want it to be as accurate to the one in the game as possible :) Many thanks

well the silver glossy certainly does look very nice, and would last the longest of them all...but if it's accuracy you're after, then the Stainless steel would be the way to go as it already looks a little aged....those 2 are the best options so from there it's personal preference...

Brilliant! I bought the stainless Steel version and Im completely happy with it. Excellent quality and looks authentic. There were a couple of small residual white flecks (from the print process) in the letters but were easily blown out or picked out with a tooth pic leaving it looking perfect. Now I need to find a leather cord!

technically thats not a "problem" and is just left over support material from the printing process. Sometimes it doesnt all get removed when the models are cleaned, but yeah its just a case of picking them out with a small pointy object like a needle as you've done.

Got mine yesterday, the rind is great. There is some weird tan/whitish stuff inside the letters. I was only able to get them out with a small sewing needle. There is still some that is giving me a hard time. Anyone else have this problem? any solutions? Maybe i'll leave it and pretend its ancient sand from Ubar.

I just got mine in stainless steel in the mail today and its even more awesome than i was expecting it would be! Anyone have any tips on how to get the remaining tiny sand particles out from the engravings though. Ive been picking at them with a needle but i cant get to the ones on the inside.

UPDATE on those of you looking for leather cords. I just ordered mine from www.leathercordusa.com. They are very fair on shipping and the laces and cords come in so many colors. I personally went with the color "chocolate".

I'm a bit confused. I've ordered this ring in Sterling Silver and got it today, but it looks more like the Sterling Silver Glossy one from picture 6/8 (the one with the comparison between old and new Stainless Steel). Is it possible that the pictures have the wrong labels...? Because mine doesn't really look like the one on photo 4/8. It's not as 'shiny'. Idk. But I love the ring either way. Great job! Was definitely worth the money.

@22Vengeance44 Hi. I just have a thin brown ribbon from a fabric shop near where I live. You can get leather cord necklaces as well. If you want one that is close to the one Nate has then I would get a leather cord. I'm a girl and thought leather might look a little too masculine. Ha ha. Also, ribbon is cheaper. As for postage time, as you mentioned in your other comment, it does take a while because the ring is specially printed and created for you when you order it. Mine took a couple of days once it had been shipped to get to where I live.

@22Vengeance44 Yes it is stainless steel. The inscription isn't perfect and the ring seems very worn out, so it's basically an exact copy of the ring in-game. Having said that, if you were to wear it as a ring on your finger, I'd go Sterling Silver. But Stainless steel as a necklace.

@jvsnmz: sorry to hear about that happening, i suggest you contact shapeways about it. My guess is that there was a short period after I was told the new version was available where it hadn't been updated in their system and as such the wrong one was printed for your order. It's not something I would have expected to happen so I apologise for that. Shapeways support should be able to give you a better answer on the situation and should be able to help sort it out.

If you want most authentic to the game. I'd go normal sterling silver. As the one in the game is made from silver. And it's more accurate compared to the glossy version.

well the detail comes out the very best in the sterling silver and its nice and shiny (who doesn't like shiny?...lol) but if you are after the antique look for the ring the best bet would be stainless steel as it prints with a nice finish that matches pretty close to how it appears in the game...

@tommy.becerra: the weather shouldn't have any affect on the rings so it's really up to you as far as which version you get. typically the time from order to arrival is around 14 days for stainless steel. for more info on the shipping check here: http://www.shapeways.com/support/shipping the update with the new inscription is not available yet, but will be coming in the next day or so, and I'll make it very clear in the description when it's available.

@JaclyNLuvsMuse: I understand the frustration, I only found out that they were different 2 days ago myself. In a way the current version is still accurate though, as the details on it (JAN instead of Januarie) were straight from the guy who actually modeled the ring at Naughty Dog for the first 2 games. If you would like the Januarie version though, it may not be too late to contact Shapeways and cancel so that you can reorder in a few days after the update.

I have fixed the interior inscription and have ordered a test print. I also changed the dots on the outside to be diamonds as per Uncharted 3. Once I know the model is printable (ie once it goes into production, in 3-4 days) I will update the model in this listing for order. At that time I will upload a 3d render of the ammended inscription, with photos to follow when the test print arrives. I will keep you all updated in these comments. The rings will remain available in their current form until I update them.

@mauriziocorso77: I've uploaded a picture of the bronze to the gallery, didn't realise I'd forgotten it. There isn't, however, a picture of the 'silver' version...only the 'silver glossy' one. If you check the material page for silver ( http://www.shapeways.com/materials/silver ) you can see the difference between the 2. My guess is that the plain 'silver' one would look a bit more antique than the glossy one.

Hey guys, there was an issue with a few orders late yesterday (only 4 as far as I can tell) in that the computer was rejecting them while still printing other rings....I contacted shapeways and they told me that those of you that had theirs 'rejected' were emailed a coupon code and that you will be contacted when it is alright for you to reorder... I apologise for any inconvenience caused, I freaked out myself when the 'rejected' emails came through. But everything should be on it's way to being fixed now and as I said, shapeways will contact you when you can reorder. I should also mention this appears to be an isolated thing and that it is still safe to order the rings.

I ordered the stainless version and today I got an email that the order is cancelled, because the wall is to thin. Why does it works for other customers and not for me?

Has the coordinates issue been corrected yet? I'm itching to replace the pewter P.O.S. from the collector's edition with a stainless steel one. (Maybe silver if I want to be hardcore accurate to the game).

Since it would probably come from the Netherlands for you, I would expect it wouldn't take very long at all once it's made, and yes the numbers have all been fixed

@seabass you can double check with shapeways support but i'm fairly sure the stainless steel and silver versions don't have zinc in them. their material data sheets say that the stainless steel is a mix of stainless steel and bronze and that the silver is 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper... again if you want to be extra sure i'd contact shapeways directly but you should be okay....

@TrueZarken I have both the Stainless Steel and Silver V1 rings. I haven't had any issues with the V1 showing any signs of surface rust. If you want to be safe though get the silver, it will age nicely as well, it's was quite shiny when I got mine.

@TrueZarken: well I'm not sure if the stainless steel would rust eventually or not, but I'd be pretty sure that the sterling silver one wouldn't rust... on another note, I received notice that my tests of the final version of the ring have been shipped and should arrive early next week., I will then have pictures of what the sterling silver ones look like. It will also mean that those of you who have been waiting for the 100% correct inscriptions will be able to order.

I am curious as to which one you'd recommend if it is going to get wet a lot. I do a fair bit of swimming and there is considerable rain this time of year where I live and I don't want to buy it if it's going to be rusting a few weeks later. Anyway thank you in advance Kind regards

sorry you're disappointed, the coordinates on this ring were given to me by the modeler who created the ring for the original game. The coordinates you mentioned (with the 9) are on the ring that comes with the collectors edition of Uncharted 3. The ring you ordered will not come with the 9, so if this is a problem, you can simply cancel and wait for the updated version. It may be a little while though as I have a lot of other stuff going on at the moment.

Ive just ordered this and im a bit dissapointed i checked the numbers at the back of the ring and it only says 32.79, thats wrong it should be 9.32.79, i hope when the ring gets here i got its correct.
