LMS (Ex LT&SR) 442 tank loco (superheated)

This is a body and chassis kit for an ex LT&SR 442 tank in it's later condition, after being fitted with a superheated boiler with the extended smokebox and Midland style smokebox door. The kit comprises four parts: The body is largely complete in one btt, although handrails and finer pipework have to be added by the builder. The cab interior is a separate piece which slots in after the model is painted. The chassis comes as a finished single piece including brake gear and dummy springs etc., this can be used straight away, although I have found it beneficial to open out the axle holes with a round file to take top hat bearings for better running. The fourth component is the front bogie, which like the main chassis, is complete, just needing wheels fitting, and a nut and bold to secure it to the chassis. I have designed recesses in the frame spacers on the lower face of the chassis to accept strips of copper clad sleeper to act as bases for pickups, with pre-drilled holes to take the wiring straight up into the body for the motor. The same provision has been made on the leading bogie, with recesses to take the pick up wires back to the pivot, and on to the motor. There are also a set of rods and crossheads available separately in brass. I would recommend using a high level models 'road runner' gearbox in this loco, with a motor of your choice, also available though High Level.
