Hello. I would like to use your illustrated image in a logo for a non-profit foundation called the Digital Media Learning Foundation (DMLF). I am an intern for the foundation which is located within the Digital Media Factory in Santa Cruz, CA. The foundation is about community and people coming together to learn about new media. I will include a link to our website and blog (in progress) as well as the image I would like to use. Thanks, John. I'm working on the cube now. When it's done, you ought to be able to hold the top and bottom faces and it'll rotate around the vertical axis. In the meantime, you can check out the new heart shaped model, here: http://www.shapeways.com/model/29355/gear_heart___140_.html

Nice mov on the forum. I like the way you seem to hold the axis and rotate the model and the cogs go around as the model spins. Consider a morphing shape that has a holdable/standable axis and the model mutates shape as you rotate in on that axis. E.g. a cube that when you hold the center of the top and bottom faces and rotate the model, the corners rotate off-axis to disrupt the clean lines. Other more organic shapes might offer different kinetic aesthetics. Central sphere could be more wireframe to reduce cost.

Absolutely. Heart and box (and other) shapes are coming when I've determined that all the moving parts behave properly. If there are any specific shapes you're looking for, please let me know.

Have you considered putting caps on each of the cogs so that it forms a shape in one orientation and changes as you rotate the cogs. Like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70dKZjP4NOo
