Product Description
Thinkpad Caddy for Micro SATA to 44pin IDE Adapter

This caddy is designed to carry a Micro-SATA to IDE Adapter (purchase from www.microsatacables.com) and a 1.8" SSD or HDD of 5mm height. It is useful for updating oldschool Thinkpads (e.g. T42) having an IDE interface with modern SATA SSDs. The caddy has the size and shape of a 2.5" HDD mounted into a Thinkpad HDD caddy (thus, the original Thinkpad HDD caddy is not needed any more).

How to use

Order caddy, adapter and 1.8" SSD (5mm high). Please, note: You will get the caddy only from here. Assemble as described below and replace original HDD. In case you do not know how to replace the old HDD: Let it be done from the next Thinkpad addict you can catch or downlad your Thinkpads HMM (Hardware Maintenance Manual) from Lenovos website.

Assembly

1. Put the adapter in place: Insert it with the pins ahead slanted from above. Push it slightly down forward into the adapters holder.
2. Put the SSD in place: Slide it in from the caddys backside.
3. In case, you worry about possible disengagement of the SSD from the adapter you might fix the SSD with tape (wrap it around the back beam).
