About this Product

The Hyphae lamp is a series of organic table lamps based on how veins form in leaves. Each lamp is a completely one-of-a-kind design 3D-printed in nylon plastic. The lamps are lit by eco-friendly LED's and cast dramatic branching shadows on the wall and ceiling.

About Hyphae
Hyphae is a collection of 3D printed artifacts constructed of rhizome-like networks. Inspired by the vein structures that carry fluids through organisms from the leaves of plants to our own circulatory systems, we created a simulation which uses physical growth principles to build sculptural, organic structures. Starting from an initial seed and a surface, we grow a hierarchical network where nodes constantly branch and merge. The densely interconnected structure is at once airy and strong.

Lighting Specifications
The lamp comes with an eco-friendly 3-watt 200 lumen LED light fixture with three bright Cree LED's that will last for 6 years of continuous use. It works off a 120V or 240V outlet.

@nervoussystem I'll bet the white versions of your lamps would look great with a Phillips Hue bulb system! Is that something you've considered?

@thurstanh perfectly put sir! There's always a 'process of production' behind a product. Consumers must always consider this. It's well worth every dollar as these pieces take skill precision time and energy. It's not a mass produced warehousing facility made by machines only. 'Its a process' Sometimes a very long one as well. Much appreciation to the artist/designers of this (& every) piece.

@hakczar Production is a very small part of the whole process. If you read up on nervoussystem there is a team of 9 people to support, most probably highly trained still paying off their university that perhaps gave them some of the skills to make these custom products. Then there are the hours of work put into making custom software to create these sculptures. That is a lot of R&D hours and upkeep to add to the final product price on top of any production costs. If they have their own machinery then add a portion of that to the bill as well.

@nervoussystem Nice work. Have you considered materials that alter depending on the temperature? I'm thinking two materials one not as reactive as the other to make a lamp that when turned on opens up like a flower. If anyone it sounds like you guys would be up to the task.

If this is printed in plastic, what drives the price so high? Is it just because it takes so long to print, and printer time comes at a premium?

Beautifully and accurately mimicks a few of the reasons I'm involved in science. Maybe I'll be back for one when my wallet's in order. Have you guys ever thought of developing a similar ceiling light fixture?

@FreakingRiddle $500-$700 USD for a lamp is typical for the custom lighting industry. Many new developments will pay MUCH more for fixtures.

3d-printing is not an inexpensive way to produce objects but it does allow you to create things you can't create any other way :)

@nervoussystem, My pc says 535 euro (during a world wide economic crysis, yes, they are too much for a lamp even it is one of kind sculpure) and except that do you know how many visitors does the site have each day (average) cause i just found it and im very interested of it! :)

Hello FreakingRiddle. They cost 600usd which is ~432 euro. I think that's quite reasonable for a one of a kind sculpture / lamp. We've sold a lot of them through our website.
