About this Product

This is my 3rd revision of my 3 speed transmission for the Moving Parts contest.

It has a first, second and third gear with a small crank on the input shaft and a small propeller on the output.

The shafts and gears have 0.50 mm of clearance all the way around, so about 1 mm of total clearance, or a 3mm axel fits into a 4mm bearing.

In this revision, I have made some cut outs on the gears to save in material and moved some of the parts so that they can be printed and will fall into place when finished.

I also added material relief slots next to the axels so that it was easier to get the support material out.

This project is probably best printed in the White Detail material, but WSF should work as well.

I completely apologize for the issues you have had with the transmission, and that I have not been able to get back to you regarding your questions. Regrettably, this model did not work as it was supposed to and as a student, I have been extremely busy and have not been able to revise it to a working condition.

I suggest that people not order this object until the problems that I have encountered are dealt with. So far, I've received no help or feedback from the designer.

I purchased this because it looked so totally cool, and while it is pretty, I am having problems getting it to work. I have no idea how it's supposed to work, but I can't get it to run at three speeds by moving the shafts back and forth. The spacing of the gears does not seem to be right: in some positions two of the gear pairs engage at the same time. It is not possible to get any of the gears to engage fully. And the central gears are not shaped to allow for full engagement. There is a piece on the bottom that might be designed to be twisted off and inserted somewhere, but I don't know where. I imagine that this product would do better with a user's guide/manual of some sort. Perhaps someone can help me understand how to love this product...

Thanks! It was a huge learning experience for me. I am currently a student in Mechanical Product Design and I wasnt entirely sure how a transmission actually worked. So I did a TON of research and started work! I really hope to do more projects like these in the future.

This one should work(Hopefully) I doubled the clearances from the last revision to .5mm of clearance. Thats the same clearance as a few other models people have made that worked. So Im hoping thats the case. I would order it right now, but I need to save up a few more dollars first. haha.
