Solution

This is the first interlocking cube I ever designed. It consists of four pieces which fit together with a series of sliding movements. It is not too difficult for the average puzzler but will provide a satisfying challenge at this small scale. The completed cube is 1.6cm on each side.

My copy has a defect in one of the pieces but it still works OK. Looks like a part of the backing didn't come off or something.

Interlocking puzzles are rated by counting the number of sliding moves needed to remove each piece. This is a level 8 (3.2.3) puzzle, which means that it takes three moves to remove the first piece, another two moves for the second piece and a further three to remove the third. Mayer's cube with its level 10 (6.1.1.1.1) currently has the highest rating for a 4x4x4 cube.
