An intricate, organic cuff from our Cell Cycle collection which was inspired by cellular forms. The C-shaped, flexible design fits close to the skin, is light-weight, and uses minimal material. The final product is built up layer by layer in durable nylon plastic using Selective Laser Sintering, a kind of 3D printing. Nylon is quite comfortable to wear because it is lightweight and flexible.

The design was formed in a simulation of spring meshes. We created interactive software to morph, twist, and subdivide each design, transforming a simple mesh to a complex patterned structure. In our work, we start with a natural inspiration and translate that into interactive software which we can use to generate an infinite variety of forms and patterns.

@3gfish bit unrelated, but something with a v.similar modelling approach & aesthetic: An open source facade tool I developed as exercise for a workshop @ London Metropolitan University: http://toxiclibs.org/2011/12/metworks-workshop-facade/ - uses a field of surface constrained particles & attractors to modulate the density. Exports STL
