I copyrighted the design for these dice in 1995 as part of my International Bone Rollers Guild project. At last, I've finally been able to produce and distribute them through Shapeways! This is a truly unique design for a D12 die, based on my original hand-carved wooden models. I've been using them for years in my role-playing worlds, and now you can have one, too! These dice are hollow, and just under 1-1/2 inches in diameter.

The shape of this die is one of a group of polyhedra known as the Catalan Solids, which are geometric duals to the Archimedean Solids. This shape, known as the Triakis Tetrahedron, is dual to the Truncated Tetrahedron. Unlike other dice of its shape, this copyrighted design actually rolls numbers from 1 to 12. And, just as an ordinary 6-sided die has its pips arranged so that opposite sides add up to 7, this die has its numbers arranged so that opposite sides add up to 13.

I love unusual shape for dice. This one is very original. I have two questions. You said this shape is copyrighted. How did you copyright it? I also design dice. How do I find that a shape is already copyrighted? Thanks in advance!

Very nice design, clever numbering. The rolled number is clearly visible although there are no parallel faces.

Very nice (and clever) ... I received mine this week and have dyed it ... and will be posting it later today ... Have you considered having the numbers straddle the vertex so it can be more easily read from oblique angles?

Kevin, I put the numbers in the corners, so you could tell which face to read. For example, if you look at the rendering, the corner with the 5 in it is higher than the corner with the 11 in it. If you tapped it on its right side, it would roll over so that the 11 corner was highest. It's actually very easy to read, and I've been using hand-carved versions of it for years.

Mitch ... How do you read this die? when rolled a TRIAKIS TETRAHEDRON will land with 2 sides pointing up ... http://www.dicecollector.com/PAPER_D06_MY_DESIGN_TRIAKIS_TETRAHEDRON_PIPPED.jpg
