Hi John, thanks for your question. You get a pretty good, non-distorted magnification even if you are not facing the screen at exactly 90 degrees as you can see on the video. The lens fixture provides sufficient space to use the screen with your fingers as usual, but that will be harder to do if you are not holding the phone (if for example, it is on a stand.)
