@tebee you might interested to know that the DCC-ready Underground Ernie bogie chassis are a drop-in fit for this print and the fixing screws are spaced so that they can be used to secure the chassis solidly.

The superstructure fits onto a Bachmann 44-ton chassis. The current version is preferred since it has both a single motor and DCC already on board. The earlier Bachmann 44-tonner had two motors and was not as smooth in operation. If you want to use screws to hold the 44-tonner chassis and this shell together, it seems to be a good idea to add more material to the floor of the shell. As printed, the shell has a thin floor that fits onto the mechanism, probably too thin to allow for the screws. Likewise, the shell floor does not extend quite far enough toward the center-line for the screws to completely run into the floor of the shell. Two strips of styrene can be added while the shell is fitted onto the frame from the top of the shell, prior to adding the roof. This gives you more material to run the screws into, adding strength. Otherwise, the shell can be glued onto the chassis, but you lose the ability to access the mechanism except via removing the roof. As printed, the doors, vents and related hatches are also quite thin. They seem to be of scale dimensions, but a dark livery, such as dark green or black, is likely to completely conceal these details. It seems to be a good idea to lightly scribe lines to help demark the edges of these objects. Otherwise, thin styrene could be added to represent the hatches, vents and such.. In addition to this basic shell, roof walks could be added with strips of styrene. Headlights could be mounted to the ends of the cab or fitted onto pedestals on the hoods. The ends of the locomotive will need pilots for both steps and onto which couplers can be mounted. Handrails for the cab doors and the ends could be made of shaped wire. In all, a nice print.
