Easy to fit with a cross head screwdriver.

1. Remove dispenser from lid (it just pops out).

2. Wash?

3. Remove old latch part by undoing the two cross head screws and lifting out U bracket.

4. Rescue the small spring which keeps the latch engaged.

5. This spring has one end that narrows down slightly. Hold the very end of this with tweezers or needle point pliers and then wrap the spring onto the cross (a tooth pick or a match end is handy for this).

6. Place new latch in position, add bracket and resecure with the two screws.

7. Make bread.

Thanks @Susan-parker for the prompt respond. Looking forward for availability of the latch for SD2501, Peter.

@peterdekinder Hi. Thank you for your question. I am currently testing a new latch for the SD2502 and I believe the SD2501 is the same dispenser. Please note that the SD253 latch, although looking similar, is NOT a function fit. The SD257 is quite a different shape and also operates horizontally rather then vertically. All going well with the prototype's testing I will have a SD2501/2 latch available soon (by the end of May). Thank you. Best wishes, Susan.

Resend my previous post (which didn't accept less-than sign in part ID so I replaced it with Hyphen) Can somebody tell me if I can use either SD253 or SD257 latch also for SD2501? My Panasonic SD2501also got a broken latch (it indicates PA-1).

I have contacted Shapeways customer support...

@deltab ...and the same happens to me when I try to send you one. And yes, I have checked the permissions - have received PMs from others so it can or did work at one time.

@Susan-parker There is a problem with the web site - when I click on your name to send you a message, it returns an error such that it cannot continue. Does your profile need to be updated to allow pm's? Can you send me one?

@deltab Sorry, the SD253 latch is specific to that machine. If you would like to send me the dispenser, the broken plastic latch and the stainless steel one you got from Shapeways I will make up a version for the SD-ZB2502 and send you one fitted in your dispenser. Please PM me to chat further :)

Just received part but it doesn't fit correctly. I'm using a SD-ZB2502 breadmaker which basically looks like the exact same part as SD 253, which is why I thought I would give it a try. Do you have a direct contact email address as I have a short video clip to show you what it does ? Its like its 1mm too small - very annoying!

@Susan-parker Thanks for your help Susan. The spring was missing and so I managed to find another and my bread maker fruit dispenser now works perfectly thanks to your latch. I can now make my fruit loaf and all is right with the world again! Karen

@Karenmenarry I am sorry that you have had problems with the latch replacement. I am assuming of course that the spring is properly in position, that is a bit fiddly to do and if it isn't seated right the latch will not work properly. If the spring has gone walkabout then it is possible to use one from a ball point pen, a few different pens may need to be sifted through, and shortened to an appropriate length. I am puzzled however that the latch seems to work okay when the program is set for plain, but doesn't operate for seed/raisin. This would seem to be something going on with the operation of the bread maker itself and the timing of the solenoid tripper, rather than the latch. When the bread-maker is doing a plain loaf, do you hear the solenoid clunk part way through the program? Over two hundred people have used my latch with apparent success, I would really like to know what is happening as of course the whole point of designing the latch is to keep the bread-makers running properly and doing one's bit for lightening the global carbon foot print. If they are also failing in another manner which affects the dispenser operation then that of course negated the whole point of the repair. When your dispenser stopped working properly, can you tell me which part of the original Panasonic latch broke? I like your idea of re-purposing a paper-clip. I guess as an engineer I am just used to designing things with 3D modelling and the idea of being able to create a complex solid shape that can be custom fabricated in real metal on demand for a specific individual is how I see the world. Many thanks for your contribution. Please give more details on this and I will be pleased to do what I can to help solve this issue. Best wishes, Susan.

I'm very disappointed with my latch for my bread maker. It doesn't release when the fruit is supposed to drop and when I make an ordinary loaf I find the fruit dispenser open, letting out heat. The design is as per the picture, it just doesn't work properly. I could have achieved a better result using a bent paper clip. I'd be pleased to hear your comments.

I received my hatch hook today and all is GREAT. Thank you for being able to supply this part to make the bread maker fully functional again. All the way to New Zealand and on time too. Your service is excellent.

@Susan-parker , I take it the payment hasn't gone through. I shall re-order but if you see me twice on your records, I think i only need one of your gadgets.

@dominic_koe Hi Dominic. Sorry, I only see the "... someone's ordered..." email from Shapeways which does not give any personal information about the buyer.

Thanks Sarah. It arrived as promised, the fitting instructions were very helpful, and more importantly it worked. We are now enjoying a fruit loaf again. Thanks for saving us a lot of money! Shirley

Hello Susan, I have ordered an SD253 seed dispenser latch but paypal said an error had occurred during the transaction and I am not sure if it has gone through.

@Lanzaga Hi, thank you for your comment. I am pleased to say that over 100 people have now been able to repair their breadmakers with my latch. All the best, Susan.

I agree with Tortoise 1000 below. I was fascinated with the idea that Susan could design and make this part. I hesitated before buying because my breadmaker is 9 years old. It has attracted interest from my engineering colleagues. Instructions couldn't have been clearer. Many thanks.

It worked! I am delighted to say my nut dispenser is back to normal :-)
