About this Product

Since the kickstand on my Surface Pro broke off and there was no way of getting a replacement part i decided to make my own. I bet others had the same problem with the Kickstand breaking so i thought it would be a good idea to make this model available for those who want to replace their Surface Pro kickstand, or remove their current and use a custom one. This kickstand is made according to Surface Pro measurments, and not sure it would fit Surface RT or Surface 2, or other products, but i guess it's same.

@tunepunk im interested in the plastic one, think its slimer

@tomdraper Yes, the plastic is a bit too bendy, but will not really break from what i've experienced so far. I had to strenghthen mine with a bit of modding, Turned out pretty good, and it's better than no kickstand at all. Attached is a pic where u can see how much the 3D printed kickstand would bend.

@mariogrigoriu I got one myself but the plastic was a bit too flexible. Not strong enough to hold the weight of the Surface Pro without bending a bit. But if you're interested in some Modding it can still be useful. The problem is, 3D printed metal is too pricy and doesn't have enough detail, or can't be printed large enough. Attached Picture i did some modding.

I'm really interested in the surface pro kickstand how does it work when it comes to purchasing the product? thank you really appreciate it

@tunepunk I'm totally new to the whole 3d printed world. I need a replacement kickstand for my surface pro 2 and you seem to be the only person that is offering a solution. My main concern though is the existing kickstand is metal, your design is printed plastic. Surely that printed plastic version is going to break very quickly?

@tunepunk Fantastic, that's great. I'll get onto this over the next couple of days.

@tunepunk Got it, thanks. Appreciate the clarification.

@bluerings Nope. The hinges are built in to the surface itself. The kickstand won't alter how many steps. The kickstand is just the rigid part you screw on to the hinges. The hinge mechanism won't change.

I noticed you said in a comment that there are 2 hinge steps on this kickstand model. To clarify explicitly, does this mean that replacing the (1-step) kickstand on the Surface Pro with this kickstand would give a Surface Pro the same 2-step kickstand functionality as a Surface Pro 2?
March 27, 2014, 10:05 am
@Taratop I think the kickstand itself is exactly the same, only the hinge mechanism has 2 steps instead of one. Can you send me some pics and measurments on the pro2 one and I can doublecheck if they are same. But I guess they are. Here is a pic of what measurments I need. And I'll double check if it's same, and if needed upload a model for surface pro 2 also, if there is any changes.

@mattmo812 I'm not exactly sure what differs from the pro versions and the rt ones, but I you can provide some pics and measurements I can check if they are same.

@tunepunk Hi, My Kickstand has broken on my Surface Pro 2 (I'm UK based). I think it would be slightly different to the original Surface Pro, as the kickstand has two settings, but if someone can make one for my Surface Pro 2 I would be keen to buy it, as it seems that it can be easily replaced just by taking the screws out although from what I understand Microsoft don't sell the replacement separately and it is such a faff to send the whole surface away to get fixed. If you let me know what pictures and measurements you need for the Surface Pro 2 I can send them on, and also likely cost, that would be great.
March 26, 2014, 10:36 am
@mattmo812 I'm not sure, but if you can provide some detailed pictures and measurements of the kickstand I would be happy to help out making a version for that one too. There's probably more people who had this problem.

Will this work with the surface rt?
