The GEB models are a tribute to the shapes featured on the cover of Douglas Hofstadter's book "Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid". These "trip-lets" come in two different shapes for the upper and the lower position and in three sizes. High-resolution pictures can be found at http://flic.kr/p/5StVjJ, http://flic.kr/p/5TfkzR, and http://flic.kr/p/5WdB79. This particular one is the upper piece and with 2x2x2 cm the small size. Its counterpart is http://www.shapeways.com/model/17219/g_e_b_lower__2x2x2_.html.

Damn! you stole my idea... from someone other than me... before I even had the idea :P I was working on the same type of thing and stumbled across this Nice model, though. I think I might borrow your shadow projection idea for presentation in the render, though, it really highlights the silhouette. (Mine is different letters) http://www.shapeways.com/model/53375/yar_4mm_pirate_cube.html
