I came across Paul Nylanders's sconce based on a Loxodrome and found it pleasing. I had started working on making knots with OpenSCAD and thought the same approach could be applied to this object. I wrote more about the development in my blog.
This object has particular significance to my wife and I as sailors since each line represents the path a boat would follow if it keeps to a constant heading.
The loxodrome printed in polished alumide is surprisingly springy - you can compress it flat without damage and it bounces nicely.
