These earrings are based on wireframes of the three Platonic solids that can be constructed from equilateral triangles. The triangles are softened into curves and each twines around its neighbors for an organic feel.


The model contains two earrings, and as printed the three wireframes of each earring are connected by short straight struts. The struts are meant to be cut off and replaced by jump rings. I offer 'finished' versions of the earrings with this already done in my Etsy shop, although I don't keep them in the full range of materials that Shapeways offers. (If you're interested in finished earrings in a material you don't see there, just ask!)


The model contains two earrings so when you order this item you will get a pair. The three shapes that make up each earring are the only three Platonic solids that can be constructed from equilateral triangles: the tetrahedron has four faces and three triangles meet at each corner. The octahedron has eight faces and four triangles meet at each corner. The icosahedron has twenty faces and five triangles meet at each corner. If you try to make a solid with six triangles meeting at each corner, you get a tessellation of a flat plane, and with only two triangles at each corner you get a flat "solid" that is just two triangles back-to-back.
