Product Description

The Kibo Peak volcanic cone, renamed Uhuru Peak upon Tanzania's independence in 1964, of Mt. Kilimanjaro is the highest point in Africa, and at 5895m, the entire mountain itself is the highest free-standing mountain in the world. The other two cones, Mawenzi and Shira, are 11km and 16km from the summit, and linked by a number of trails. Though Uhuru Peak can be reached simply by walking, hikers regularly underestimate the effects of cold and altitude, and attempt the round trip in much less than the recommended 7-8 days.

Our model of Kilimanjaro include all three major peaks, numerous deep rilles on the south slopes, and many other details. In area, it starts just outside of the towns of Moshi and Marangu and extends North to include the Kenyan town of Oloitokitok, just across the border. The 10cm models exhibit details such as the rim of the Reusch Ash Pit and a half-dozen volcanic craters and mounds Southeast of Mawenzi. Even the 7.5cm model has an easily-detectable summit ridge on the South side of the 3km wide Kibo crater.

Because we believe in delivering the most accurate models available, we also do not exaggerate the vertical dimension. This may make Kilimanjaro seem insignificant at first glance. But due to the mountain's massive scale, this model covers the largest land area of any TinyMtn offering: 41km (25 miles) on a side. This is truly a massive mountain. Hold Kilimanjaro in your hand and we are confident that you will sense its grandeur.

Model scale is 1:207500
Model covers an area approximately 41.5 by 41.5 km
Altitudes covered: 1049m to 5895m
There is never any vertical exaggeration in TinyMtn models.

TinyMtn models are most affordable in the "Sandstone" and "White Strong and Flexible" materials. This model is in "Sandstone," which is a glued gypsum material. When you receive the model it will be ready for display, though it may smell funny and need some time to air out. "Sandstone" models are much more brittle than "White Strong and Flexible" models, but feel more like light stone. Do not soak it in water, though you can safely seal it with Polycrylic or a similar water-based clear spray sealant. Read more about this popular material here.

These models have been optimized for the above materials, and are not offered in other materials for strength or cost reasons. If you need one in another material, please contact us and we'll try to accommodate your request.
