About this Product

Bigger is better? In their evolution, Theo Jansen’s 3D printed Strandbeests have now also grown larger, almost double the size of the AGP Strandbeest. With legs twice as long, the Gracilis takes long slow steps resulting in a smoother walking motion. Its long legs also make it less dependant on the surface it walks on; smoother or rougher, it will walk along most surfaces regardless.

The mechanism is printed assembled, and will work without further assembly right after birth from the printer.

A Propeller Propulsion dedicated to the new Gracilis Strandbeest is also available, sold seperately at: here.

A few tips to consider:

- After birth there might be a little powder left in some joints, or it might not go supersmooth. This will fix itself after the animal has a little bit of practice!

- The beest is light, but quite strong. It can actually be dropped without breaking. It is not a "toy" however, and not suitable for children. The 3D printer material is easy to stain so clean hands are advised.

Hi @TheoJansen I'm really excited to let you know that this wonderful Strandbeest been selected by Shapeways staff and the curator of the Brooklyn Children's Museum to be displayed there in an exhibition that explores the possibilities of 3D printing in the fall of 2014. Thank you and congratulations!

Thank you Theo Jansen! Years ago, I made a working version of this in Gmod.

I have been a fan since I first became mesmerized by creatures on YouTube. So glad 3-D printing has made them available for more of us to consume/enjoy at home!

I am following You, Theo, for like 6 years now - I started looking at you projects when I was in 2nd year of the Faculty of Architecture in 2008 and we exchaged a few emails back then :) And now I found You on Shapeways!!! I am definitely getting this beast with the propeller in couple of weeks and I cannot wait! :) Good job and good luck!
