Product Description
An N scale house car of the St. Peterburg-Moscow Railway. These cars were built to an 1844 Russian specification following American practice by the firm of Harrison, Winans and Eastwick at the Aleksandrovsk Main Mechanical Factory outside St. Petersburg, Russia, starting in 1847. Over 1000 were built and were the inaugural rolling stock on the line which opened in 1851. These are typical of 5' gauge interior sheathed cars found in the US at the time, and are slightly wider than a standard gauge car (9'2" vs. 8'6"). Trucks provided are to N standard gauge and will fit a .540" (13.70mm) length axle wheelset (regular MTL, FVM etc.). 2mm Association standards are convenient for converting these to the prototype's 5' gauge, using 2mm wheels on .540" axles. An extra truck is included. You'll need to add some .010" wire and conventional brakewheels to both ends. Originals were painted grey with black iron bits, roofs of sanded canvas coated with tar and whitewash.
Clean with alcohol before painting, acrylics recommended.
