Product Description
~ Kowhai Flower pendant ~ 47mm high. This is a stylised design inspired by a New Zealand native flower from the Kowhai tree (Sophora microphylla). According to the great chief Wiki-Pedia "Despite having no official status as such, the blooms of the Kowhai are widely regarded as being New Zealand's national flower". The name Kowhai comes from the Maori word for yellow, so the obvious materials for this are the polished gold, or gold plated brass (although the 'cap' at the top of the flower is usually a brownish green colour).
The nectar of the kowhai flower is a favourite of the native Tui, or 'Parsonbird' - a glossy black bird with iridescent plumage & a tuft of white feathers on it's throat - which is loved for it's astounding aerobatics, & unbelievably dextrous melodic & percussive vocabulary (they are said to have two voice boxes).
The model was created using 'box' polygon-modeling techniques utilising 2D drawings or images only as reference. Designed by Orbyt in Auckland, New Zealand - 3D models inspired by art forms in nature are available through the orbytnz Shapeways shop... Please note that as the 3D printed pendant is delivered directly from Shapeways it does not include a jump-ring, or a cord or chain - it's just the pendant by itself. ~ right click in the youtube window & click 'loop' ~
