These color pen blanks are designed for the 8mm metallo pen kit available from Penn State Industries in chrome or gold finishes. Approximately one half of the pigment layer is intended to be removed by machining on a lathe to get to the final outside diameter of the blank for this pen kit.. These color blanks are intended for use by pen makers with moderate to advanced levels of pen making experience.
There is some DIY work you must do to your color blanks prior to final pen assembly. These steps are basically enlarging the center holes of the blanks to accept the brass tube in the pen kit, gluing the brass tube into the blank, sanding the ends of the blanks down to the ends of the brass tubes, turning your blanks on a lathe, and surface finishing your blanks with a sealant or other protective finish as desired.
For final pen assembly it helps to use a dedicated pen press to achieve good results. Alternately you could use a large C-clamp with wood or plastic covering the clamping faces but you need to be extremely careful to not crush or damage your pen mechanism.

Warning and disclaimer: Color blanks are experimental and may not result in a pen with full color coverage reflecting the design file due to component fabrication issues and process variations that may alter component shape (such as roundness) or surface layer pigment depth. In addition fabrication consistency may vary from machine to machine over time due to factors such as the use of machines from various manufacturers, variable calibrations and machine set-ups, or different software settings or translations of the 3D CAD color file to machine printing algorithms.
