1/600 Scale Gun Leander Upgrade Kit. This upgrade kit is designed for the Airfix 1/600 Scale Leander Frigate that was sold either individually or in the Falklands Warships Set. Contained on the sprue are replacement parts for both masts, the bridge, the VDS pantograph, life raft canisters, the whaler and launch with davits, although rope is not supplied. The twin 4.5 main gun in the Mark 6 housing plus Director. The forward mast is supplied with the radar platform in the offset position, to starboard, but included is the option to reposition the platform directly forward, as when first commissioned. Limbo with the mortar tubes angled forward. Corvus chaff launchers on platforms, although the supporting legs are not supplied. Two Bofors, if depicting the first Leander frigates to enter service, before the Seacat refit. This time barrels are not supplied. A Seacat launcher minus missiles, with the old pattern director, and director platform. Two large ammunition lockers, for the chaff launcher, and two small ammunition lockers, for the bofors, .Two five bladed propellers and shaft supports. Recently added Fairleads and Roller Fairleads. Four Standard, and Two Roller. Three Winches, and a Capstan to complete the aft deck. Also a Westland Wasp HAS 1 helicopter without rotors and tail fin. It is suggested that missing parts too small or thin to be printed correctly can be scratch built, sourced from Photo Etch retailer, or the kit parts reused. ie gun barrels. This conversion kit obviously contains small parts, and is not suitable for children. Some previous modeling experience is necessary, and care must be taken removing parts from the sprue. Due to size of the parts, this is only available in Frosted Ultra Detail material. Printed parts may differ slightly from the illustration due to my continuous improvement policy.

@Bogey Hi Any news on any upgrades for the Airfix Devonshire kit? If you don't mind, here's my wishlist for an upgrade for a Batch 2 County. Bridge top, bridge wings, foremast batch 2 Counties, funnels, exocets, 4.5 mounting and director, 901 sea slug director, sea cat launchers and directors

We seem to have had a few problems printing the 965 radar, and as a result it is still an Airfix killer, but its lost a bit of ground to WEM PE. You can see in the SW rendered view where I have had to increase the thickness slightly. Sorry for the disappointment.

I am looking forward to your future releases, I am working with the Gun Leander and the Ikara at present and the sets totally transform the old Airfix kit.

@crawfie69 The Airfix kit is actually closer to the Kent/London and the Batch 2's, it does not represent the Devonshire or Hampshire whatsoever, the Mainmast on Devonshire/Hampshire was on the forward block of superstructure and was moved to the aft block on the remaining 6

I'm currently working on just such kits. In the next few weeks, I should have most of the Airfix Falklands Warships covered. 600 scale, and also 700 scale parts where possible.

Will certainly be purchasing this upgrade when I start my project. I would love to see an upgrade kit for the Airfix 1:600 HMS Devonshire kit that uses some of the parts on the Leander upgrade. Especially an upgrade to convert the kit to a Batch 2 County Class destroyer (Fife, Glamorgan, Norfolk, Antrim).

Due to a few rejections at the print stage, several areas have been remodeled, and hopefully this will now prevent future rejections. The Limbo barrels have been increased in diameter, in preference to sprueing, for ease of assembly. By way of an apology for rejected orders there have been several small additions to the kit. The small winches, haws guides, and the aft capstan are now included. This has resulted in a very small increase in the material used, and hence the price. Bogey.
