I'll definitely do spheres when I get a chance. Other models are readily available, but they need to be parameterized in a very specific way, using an algorithm I don't have access to. Thanks for the thoughts.

Well, that being the case, I think you should offer a sphere in that pattern, or maybe some other complex shapes. There are other license free models you can get from the web too, if not the bunny.

Cradders, looks like you were correct. The Stanford folks don't have any sort of arrangement with the original creators of the figurine from which the bunny model is derived, and so they're conservative about permitting commercial uses. Alas, I've set them as Not For Sale. I'll try to get these patterns up and running on spheres. Suggestions for other models to use are welcome, though the tricky part is to get a coarse, semi-regular quadrangulation of the surface (in the style of the SIGGRAPH paper Spectral Surface Quadrangulation). That's not something I know how to implement.

Cradders, that's an interesting question. Looking at the Stanford models website, I see that they don't allow commercial use without permission. I suppose I hadn't considered that carefully enough -- the bunny model I'm using has passed through so many transformations and filters that it's at best a distant cousin of the original model. Nevertheless, I should obtain formal permission. Because I'm building these models to demonstrate my research, I don't think of this as a commercial enterprise. But that might be an overly optimistic viewpoint.

Are you allowed to sell the Stanford Bunny?

Not right now. I'm just getting started putting models up, and haven't explored colour yet. I'll keep the idea in mind, though.

Great! Does the full color sandstone print the purple? Also, would you consider a creator function with the models where the buyer could specify their own color map? I think Virtox is doing that with his Gyroid forms.

Thanks. It's a lovely source pattern to work from. I think I like that it fills space more evenly than the Islamic pattern. I also have a bunny decorated with a celtic key pattern that I'll be uploading at some point.
