A geometric object known as a "gamma star," constructed of an intersecting cube and regular octahedron. I first saw (and made) this object from instructions in an origami book by John Montroll. I'm not sure if he invented the object, but this model is my own creation. By the way, take it from someone who has done both: making this shape with parametric modelling software is a lot easier than folding it out of paper.
