FV121 Spatha CVR(G)

The FV121 Spatha Combat Reconniassence Vehicle (Grav) is the latest in the venerable and endlessly modified line of Scorpion family of AFVs, reaching all the way back into the late 20th century.

The Spatha is one of the few to warrent an antigrav drive, but with more and larger threats on the horizon (such as continued clashes with the Aotrs and the re-emergance of the Strayvians), it was decided that cost was not something that culd be skimped on in this vital role. The Spatha thus has the very latest in light power-core technolgy to power its weapons and sensors.

The sensors, combined with the grav drive allow it to lurk behind ridges and folds that tracked vehicles simply cannot, and then establish a weapons firing lock for other missile-armed vehicles.

As the shield generator technology of a size sufficient to mount of AFVs, especiall ones as small as the Spatha are still out of reach, the Spatha is lightly armoured and cannot stand many hits. Its best defence is its mobility and ability to use terrain. It does, however, mount one of the new miniturised omnidirectional PD laser emitters for missile defense.

For offense, the Spatha relies on a light lazer cannon, which trades some power for range (where the Spatha is safer firing from). It also has a pintle-mounted heavy Clustergun. The new clustergun technology essentially is like a large shotgun, firing very rapid bursts of hardened flechetetts at high speed. The volume of fire is very high, and because of the advances in metalurgy, the fletchetts have a higher penetration than might be expected. This renders them very effective against infantry and light vehicles, though ammunition and targeting limitations prevent it being used as an anti-missile defence.
