About this Product

A compound mobius strip created out of 36 interlocking mobius strips.

All segments are thin mobius strips, and they weave and interlock perfectly through the spaces left between them. Highly complex, and a headache to look at, yet it possesses an inherent mathematical simplicity and beauty.

This model is 3d printed out of a sintered vinyl plastic, which makes it very resilient and bendable. It won't break if you drop it.

@kreator I had one made in the blue and am very happy with it! Can't say it is best, but knowing it was going to be fondled a lot, I thought it best to do a color. It is marvelous desktop conversation starter!

@Nardella thanks! I was trying to do a compound Möbius strip, but I didn't expect it to interlock through the spaces between the strips, that was pure luck as I was modeling it. It too me maybe 3 or 4 hours of experimenting with different ways to lock and deform the strips, different thicknesses, etc. I didn't have that final shape in mind when making it, it was a sort of epiphany, and when it happened, it was done and ready to print, it was a great feeling to see it form so perfectly and better than what I was trying to accomplish.

This work is impressive. Would you care to tell us more about the experience you had creating this? Did you have to restart? How long did it take? Once you had the idea how much time did you spend thinking it through before you set to work?

@Joche The price increases rapidly because it's calculated by volume (two times the size is 2x2x2=8 times the cost). I have an 8 inch version which you can buy, I just don't have it publicly listed in my store, here is the link: http://shpws.me/qz7G ... 10 inches would be closer to $250 I'm guessing.

@kreator I have the white and pink ones, and to be honest I really prefer it in white, you can see the translucency of the material much better.... And if you decide to put it somewhere with a light, it will glow beautifully, and take the color or whatever light you use.

Does anyone has some thoughts about the best material/color to print this ? (not talking about taste) Maybe the black or dark blue isn't the best suited to observe the shape ?

@Mr_props Thanks! But I didn't use any scripting... I used a lot of duplicate with transforms, and bend and twist deformers. I don't know how to script :)

@joabaldwin. That's some nice work! I also use this software, and it is rather tricky to achieve nice geometric shapes. You may have done some MEL script or something alike. Anyway, it's very well done, congratulations!
