This is a three-dimensional reconstruction of a Herpes Simplex Virus capsid, solved by cryo-electron microscopy. It is therefore an exact scale model of the virus capsid (approximately 400,000 x).

The size of the herpes simplex capsid is 125 nm in diameter making this a roughly 400,000x scale model.

Hi, Thanks for the comments. This cryo-EM reconstruction is not deposited in the EM data base, as it is not published. The reason for this is that it was an experiment I did many years ago just to test our systems. The structure was already known and published at this resolution. The isosurface contour threshold level is set at the mean+1 SD density.

Good job Mr Bhella. I would recommend listing the source file, that is, where one could acquire the cryo-em data (ViperDB would be nice). Also, what were your iso-contour levels? Also, just a guess, but it seems that the scale is 1 million times actual size. That would be good to list as well. I am making similar creatures at my shop: moltoys.

Printed in white strong and flexible too... It looks better than the alumide model, so will upload a picture when I get my act together...

This has been printed in alumide only so far, I cannot guarantee that it will print perfectly in other materials. I have previously printed in metal through pro-metal at 9cm diameter, and there were some problems with the finer features, so I have not allowed ordering in stainless steel.
