Position summary
Shapeways is seeking a senior MySQL Database Engineer to join our growing engineering team. We are driven technologists who possess a blend of business savvy, product intuition, and superb coding skills. We run a LAMP stack for our consumer facing products, and have C/C++, Java, Python, and other technologies in our back-office and supply chain tools.You are a self-motivated hard-core DBA with excellent time management and detail orientation. You are a team player and thrive in a startup environment where there are many changes and challenges. You are intimately familiar with data modelling, normalization, summarization, query optimization, software development methodologies, version control, unit and automated testing. You have a passion for deploying high-quality deliverables to a high-volume high-availability production environment.
Responsibilities:
- Optimize existing queries, indexes, and table structures
- Model the database schema for new features and products
- Project disk, RAM, and CPU usage for all of Shapeways databases
- Architect Shapeways production database cluster
- Architect Shapeways data availability
Qualifications:
- Expert in tuning / maintaining MySQL databases
- Expert in reviewing and tuning queries
- Expert in backup and restore procedures
- Experience in high-volume e-commerce environment
- Experience with domain modelling
- Experience with eventual consistency and NOSQL
