We 3D Print a Wax Model
Use It to Cast Any Metal
3D printing technology allows us to capture our fantasies and imaginary forms.
Many of the things I design are so complex that they would not be possible using traditional techniques, and I love how 3D printing takes jewelry design to the next level.
I was always limited to jewelry supplies and designs that were available on the market. I was never able to really design and create my own pieces. 3D printing changed all that!
Shapeways is easy to work with, and has the quality level and price that gives me the freedom to realize my creations in the way I want to.
Our Materials Hub contains all the details about our high-resolution wax for investment casting. View our minimum printability rules and recommendations for successful metal casting. You can check out example designs and learn more about how wax is 3D printed.
Shapeways Community Manager Natalia Krasnodebska is a jeweler by trade, and she explains how she made a custom engagement ring for a client using a wax model. Nat walks you through her design and casting process and shows how she was able to cast a metal that Shapeways doesn't offer.
If you don't know how to 3D model or want to create something quickly and easily, you can start with an image or drawing and convert it to a 3D model using our '2D to 3D' app. This app is great for designers who are new to 3D printing, to create custom, beautiful designs, jewelry and much more.
You can also partner with another designer to turn your jewelry ideas into 3D models that can be printed by Shapeways. Designers for Hire are Shapeways community members that are experts in designing for 3D printing and have experience designing for clients.
