An intricate, organic cuff from our Cell Cycle collection which was inspired by cellular forms. The C-shaped, flexible design fits close to the skin, is light-weight, and uses minimal material. The final product is built up layer by layer in durable nylon plastic using Selective Laser Sintering, a kind of 3D printing. Nylon is quite comfortable to wear because it is lightweight and flexible.
The design was formed in a simulation of spring meshes. We created interactive software to morph, twist, and subdivide each design, transforming a simple mesh to a complex patterned structure. In our work, we start with a natural inspiration and translate that into interactive software which we can use to generate an infinite variety of forms and patterns.

This 2in wide cuff is truly a bold accessory! It features a flexible C-shaped design that fits closely against the wrist. It was grown from 4 separate root points which gradually intertwined into a single network.

Hyphae is a collection of 3D printed artifacts constructed of rhizome-like networks. Inspired by the vein structures that carry fluids through organisms from the leaves of plants to our own circulatory systems, we created a simulation which uses physical growth principles to build sculptural, organic structures. Starting from an initial seed and a surface, we grow a hierarchical network where nodes constantly branch and merge. The densely interconnected structure is at once airy and strong.

As shown in the photos, if printed in one of the "Strong & Flexible" plastics, it can be used as a bracelet or hair accessory. It takes a little time to reform back as a cube after being stretched, but it seems that leaving it overnight does the job.

Its outer surfaces have a smooth, polished finish which contrasts with the unpolished interior to create an intricate, 3-dimensional cuff.

The form is the result of a physics simulation of the forces in a cellular network of springs. Using our custom software, we created the Spiral Cuff by morphing, twisting, and subdividing; transforming a simple mesh to a complex patterned structure.

This 3D printed Constructionist bracelet was inspired by modern architecture and its use of complex repetitive geometrical structures. I am fascinated by how these structures can behave to create buildings and objects that look seemingly organic and unique, buildings that change their appearance depending on the angle you look at them. This inspiration has resulted in this collection of intricate and elegant cuffs and bracelets, that change their appearance constantly as you move and wear them.
This bracelet is an example where new techniques like 3D printing has opened up a world of new design possibilities -this bracelet would be almost impossible to make using traditional jewellery techniques.

When I model in 3D it often feels like I'm sculpting. I build each piece, put it into place, tweak/adjust, then add the next piece. With the Triangulated cuff I really wanted a design that seemed minimal yet dynamic, and I adjusted my model until I got the effect I was satisfied with. The final result was 3D printed in a black plastic nylon material (BSF - Black Strong & Flexible). It's a very lightweight yet strong and flexible material (as the name implies). The ends of the cuff are rounded so it slides on and off easily.
