Dice Template
These are the 5 platonic solids to be used as dice template.

You can download them freely and modify them.
If you want to order this set of platonic solids as they are, there is no markup: you just pay for the material (as usual, shipping is free for any order of $25 or more).

In order to reduce the cost, they are hollow, with a tunnel joining the internal shell to the external shell. This tunnel is meant to prevent the automatic repair tool of Shapeways from removing the internal shell. But it is small enough to be invisible and to keep the support material inside.
The thickness of the models is 1.5 mm which is thick enough for Strong and Flexible materials, Details materials and Alumide.

A Youtube tutorial on how to hollow a die is also available.

So you have been staring at your Tumblr stream for the past 45 minutes without blinking and your retinas are now burnt with images of LOLcats, Japanese girls, Animated GIFs of Harry Potter and macro shots of cupcakes.  You cannot continue to passively observe and it is time to interact but your brain is now fried and you do not know what to do...

Time to Roll the Tumblr Dice...

It will help you decide whether to reblog that twisted animated GIF, unfollow that freak who keeps posting images of themselves in the bathroom mirror, <3 the photo of the kitten sleeping or is it time to go home?

Let the Tumblr Dice Decide

NOTE: With each order you only get one dice, recomended materials are 3D printed stainless steel (as shown), or silver to get a nice weight and detail

Truncated Sphere D15.

This die is inspired by the repulsive force polyhedra although in this case, the underlying polyhedron (not rounded) is very different from the shape that can be obtained through this technique with 15 points repulsing each others.
Actually, I calculated the positions of points (5 at each tropic, 5 at equator, none at the pole) to have a maximal radius for the circles resulting from the intersection of this underlying polyhedron with a sphere. The result is a truncated sphere with 15 circular faces of same radius.

It is numbered from 1 to 15: all numbers are on edges.
The sum of the numbers on each tropic is 40 and the same applies to the equator.
Except for 8, all the numbers go by pair summing to 16: on the tropic two numbers symmetric relatively to the plane of the equator sum to16 and on the equator circle itself two numbers symmetric relatively to number 8 sum to 16.

This die is made of a shell of 1.5 mm that contains support material to make it heavier. The engraved numbers have a 0.75 mm depth.

Truncated Sphere D32, regular edition.
Based on an idea from Orangery.

The underlying polyhedron is a non-uniform icosidodecahedron (a kind of polyhedral soccer ball).

The distance between two faces is 30mm. The thickness is 1.5mm but it is full of support material to keep it heavy.

It is numbered from 1 to 32 with the difference between two numbers on opposite faces being always 16.
If you take the sum of a face surrounded by 5 neighbours (there are twelve of them, that corespond to pentagons on the underlying polyhedron i.e. before the intersection with a sphere) and its 5 surrounding faces you will always obtain 99.

More informations this post and this other post.

A six sided die? A rather ugly looking one, too. The design is rather plain and the surface is covered in cracks, but there's more to this than meets the eye. Unfold it and it turns into a dragon! It's a bit big for a standard die and there's no way in heck this thing's going to roll fair, but there's no doubting it's going to be a cool addition to your next gaming night. 42 individual parts, so there's a huge load of assembly required. Fortunately I've written up step-by-step instructions for assembly right here: http://www.squidoo.com/dragon-die-assembly-instructions

Sphere Dice Set

The Sphere Dice are solid dice obtained by intersecting a regular polyhedron and a sphere.
They are "as fair as possible": the shape is fair but, as the numbering remove some material, there could be a little bias (but probably not more than commercial dice).
Here you have all the 7 Sphere Dice in one set:
 - D4 Sphere
 - D6 Sphere
 - D8 Sphere
 - D10 Sphere
 - D% Sphere
 - D12 Sphere
 - D20 Sphere
For dice collectors and RPG players.

Get all the dice from D3 to D20 plus the D% and D24 by gathering:
- the Sphere Dice Set
- the DCC Expansion Pack
- the Odd Spherical Dice Set
- the D18

You may also be interested into the brand new D22.

This shape works very nicely as a 12 sided die, providing an elegant alternative to the regular dodecahedron.

It's is a hexagonal dipyramid, an isohedron.

Note that this is a blank, so the faces will need to be numbered.  For more information on unique dice shapes, see http://loki3.com/poly/fair-dice.html.

• 60-sided die with faces numbered from 1 to 60.

This is a 60-sided die (d60) based on a polyhedron known as a Pentakis Dodecahedron (the shape you get when you put a 5-sided pyramid on top of each of the faces of a dodecahedron, or d12). It should have a face come up with a random number on it every time you roll it. I''m not sure until I get mine, but it might have the up-face slightly offset from where the bottom face is, that is, it won't be directly above the bottom face but the top face will be flat. This is a fairly large die, which should help with legibility, but you still need to ink this with a pen or something similar.

The Ossuary set of dice piles together skulls with large flat numerals (or pips in the case of the four sided die).

They're intended to add a hint of the mortuary madness of the Paris Catacombs to your die rolling, while remaining pleasant to handle and roll.

Set of six dice, fifty (count 'em) skulls.

Twenty sided, from twelve skulls.
Twelve sided, eight skulls with side bones.
Ten sided, with another twelve skulls.
Eight sided, built from six skulls.
Six sided, built from eight skulls.
Four sided, a simple tetrahedral pyramid of skulls.

This die is a shell surrounding a chunk of the support material, for cost purposes. It's 3cm in radius, which turns out to be a nice solid size for a die. The numbers look big enough to be readable, and it very decisively lands on a single face with a single face up. A handsome piece of random-number generation!

There's a 4cm version of this too, but I'm starting to think that might be overkill.

Truncated Sphere D4

I was ask to make this die because it is easier to read the result than on traditional D4. It also rolls far better.

This is one of the seven dice from the Truncated Sphere Dice Set.

See this thread for more informations.

This is a simple 9 sided die.

It's a lat-long polyisohedron, an order 3 polyisohedron. Though this shape has 27 sides, only 9 of them are stable, each of which appear with equal probability. The numbered sides are offset from the other sides so it's easy to read the result of a roll.

Note that this is a blank, so the faces will need to be numbered.  For more information on unique dice shapes, see http://loki3.com/poly/fair-dice.html.

A single die that emulates all the possible rolls of two six-sided dice. All 36 possible rolls are depicted on its 36 faces, using die-pip diagrams. It should be big enough to read, since it''s nice and roomy and hollow.

The pips are maybe a little too deep, but otherwise pretty good.

Alt D22 Sphere

This is an alternative Truncated Sphere D22. It has the same symmetries as the tetrahedron.
See the D22 with 5-fold symmetry for numbers located on the faces.

This die is inspired by the repulsion force polyhedra. In fact, the underlying polyhedron (not rounded) looks like the shape that can be obtained through this technique with 22 points repulsing each others.
But in this case, I calculated the positions of those points to have a maximal radius for the circles resulting from the intersection of this underlying polyhedron with a sphere. The result is a truncated sphere with 22 circular faces of same radius.

See this thread for more informations.
