A detailed full color model of each of the first six planets (out to Saturn) and major moons of the Solar system, to (logrithmic) scale.
(Note: the full Solar System set of planets and moons is available as a set here)

All surfaces are reproduced from NASA imaging.
For size reference, Jupiter is 22mm (0.9 inch) diameter, and Earth is 11mm (0.45 inch) diameter.

This set is designed for use in orrery or other models of the solar system, and so to best present all planets while preserving scale, the scale has been compressed - a logrithmic scale instead of a linear scale. This means that if the model of a moon of Jupiter is larger than the model of Mercury but smaller than Mars, then you know that the real moon really is larger than Mercury and smaller than Mars, But the size diference is compressed - Jupiter, which is really more than ten times Earth's diameter, becomes only twice Earth's diameter, etc. This logrithmic scale allows all planets to be clearly visible together, while at the same time still indicating their sizes relative to each other.

The set contains six planets, and nine moons:
[In order of appearance in the photo above, right to left]
Mercury
Venus
Earth
 - Moon / Luna
Mars
Jupiter
 - Ganymede
 - Callisto
 - Io
 - Europa (attempt no landing there)
Saturn
 - rings of Saturn
 - Titan
 - Rhea
 - Iapetus
 - Dione

All objects have a 1.3mm (0.05 inch) hole at the south pole, about 3mm deep, for a brass axle (or a toothpick).

What color is a planet - is it color of its surface materials, or the colour of its atmosphere from space, or the color of the surface being colored by the atmosphere filtering light from the sun? The appearance in this set attempts to be that of the surface with moderate atmospheric influence, (with the gas giants depicted as the atmosphere and surface being the same thing). For example, this means that Venus depicts the features of its surface, but they are tinted somewhat by its atmosphere. Similarly, Earth and Titan show ground features, but some areas are tinted and obscured by atmosphere.

In areas where the model surface is more detailed than the most detailed NASA photography, the overall surface appearance conforms to what is known, but finer textural details are speculative. (Or, if there is an atmosphere, it is shown as particularly thick and opaque over the unmapped area.)

Due to hard limitations of the Shapeways 3D printer, the moon Dione is using the surface map of Rhea. I chose Dione because the surface is very similar to Rhea, and it is the most minor moon in the set. The alternative was simply to remove an object, but I preferred the set to include four of Saturn moons, like it does for Jupiter.

This version of PadFoot is compatible with iPad 1. For PadFoot for iPad 2, go here.

PadFoot is a viewing stand for iPad, designed to match the iPad's simplicity and elegance.  Great for watching slideshows, clips and movies, as well as for (retail) displays and presentations. PadFoot gives your iPad about 11 degrees backward tilt and can be used in both portrait and landscape mode.

Strong as it is, PadFoot adds less than 15 (!) grams of weight to your bag.

PadFoot is manufactured in tough but lightweight, 3d printed polyamide with a fine surface texture. Check the materials section of this website for more information. Colors are seasonal; current availability is shown at the bottom of this page - this may be different from the colors shown in the images above. Each product ordered is individually manufactured, just for you. If you are new to the Shapeways site: to order, you'll be asked to create an account (it's easy; you can even log in with Facebook or Twitter).

Always make sure you use PadFoot on a stable and horizontal surface, and that your iPad is placed all the way into the opening in PadFoot; resting the iPad on one of its two edges without buttons. Product ships in basic Shapeways packaging. Here is an attractive and educationally useful pendant for the scholar, astronomer, steampunk enthusiast, or the lover of the unique and celestial.

The tellurion is a model of how the earth and the moon move in space. You will see that the eath rotates freely on its axis, orbited by the moon. Orbit the whole thing around a candle or lightbulb, and you have a full feldged model of the earth, the moon and the sun.

There is some talk that if you spin the little moon on this pendant around the earth with the right conditions, that you can travel forward and back in time! ;)

The bony skeletal structure of an origami paper crane. Created following the traditional crane model, for any lovers or the art of paper folding out there.

The detail is incredible, you can see textures and complex shapes even inside of the rib cage. The poor contorted crane has legs and feet, they are folded into its torso in true origami fashion. And vertebrae on the tail you say? What else did you expect?

Own the Tesla Valve, as per the original design of Nikola Tesla, patented in 1920. See the video below to observe the valvular conduit in action.

Nikola Tesla invented this valvular conduit as a valve for his engines. Materials at the time were pretty bad, and valves were unreliable. Tesla figured that by removing any moving parts from a valving mechanism, he could create a simpler and more robust valve. The hook regions in the Tesla Valve reroute the fluid back in on itself creating a bit of resistance. All the hooks added together do a good job of arresting the fluid, especially when the gas or liquid is pulsed through the valvular conduit.

When you hold the valve in your hands after opening your shapeways package you are possessed of a strange kinship with the historical figure of Nikola Tesla. Pressing your lips to the valve, and blowing through it, you see that it actually works. In the resistive direction your breath is nullified to a mere whisper by the Tesla Valve. And in the non-resistive direction, air flows through unimpeded. It is startling the effect, and to think something so interesting as this valvular conduit was made so long ago.

I made this valve to commemorate Tesla's birthday on the 10th of July, 1856. Owning this valve is a way of recognizing a forgotten genius of unparralled creativity.

You don’t have to sacrifice style when protecting your iPhone. This case resembles the charm of a “Sweater” but is protected by advanced science.

Handwoven by robots, the cross stitching can move separately from each other creating an awesome tactile feel while acting like mini shock absorbers that protects your phone.

On the Shapeways website, this case is only available in “white” polished nylon without stain blocking protective coating. Before you use the case, I recommend that you apply this coating (not included with the case). This will help protect the case from ordinary stains.

On the ArtizanWork website (www.artizanwork.com), this case is available in 4 colors – white, red, grey, and black. All cases sold from this site are polished and sealed with our protective coating. The prices will be higher on the Artizanwork website due to the additional hand finishing of the cases with the protective coating.

Accused of being fake, witchcraft and simply impossible..
This kinetic sculpture is inspired by the unlimited freedom of 3d printing,
it wobbles and turns with a slight movement of the hand.
Give it a good spin and it moves in erratic and wild ways.

This is the 7.5cm / 3" version, see the Gyro the Forms section for other shapes and sizes.

Instructions
It is composed of four concentric cubes, each one spinning around a different axis.
The model needs some minor assembly:
Each inner cube has two knobs which need to be placed into the corresponding clamps in the parent cube. It's easiest to start with the inner most and continue outward.
And then... spin it away !

Corner stand for this 7.5cm model here.

Notes
Be careful with a cube this size, fingers may get pinched if handled carelesly.
It is not a toy for children!
Also please be careful with (the assembly of) the Alumide version as this material is less flexible/robust than the Strong & Flexible materials.

This is a small version of Triple Gear.

In this unusual mechanism three gears mesh together in pairs, and yet they can turn!

If you take three ordinary gears and put them together so that each gear meshes with the other two, then none of the gears can turn because neighbouring gears must turn in opposite directions. Triple gear avoids this problem by having the three "gears" arranged like linked rings - the gears then rotate along skew axes, and the opposite direction rule no longer applies (although see also Oskar van Deventer's Magic Gears for another possible solution).

This is joint work with Saul Schleimer. We were inspired by another of Oskar's designs, his Knotted Gear, which consists of two linked rings that gear with each other, and of course we wondered if it would be possible to do three linked rings!

A note on materials: I have so far printed it in White Strong & Flexible only. It may arrive with the rings slightly fused together, but gently moving them back and forth will loosen them up, and the mechanism gets smoother with use. I'm not sure what effect the polishing process would have on the gearing mechanism, since it would polish the exposed gear teeth but not those which are meshed as it comes out of the printer. So I have disabled the polished material options. If you really want to try it, let me know. I also haven't tested any of the "frosted detail" materials, but I imagine that they should work fine. The "detail" materials require a thicker wall thickness than this model has, so it is not printable in those materials.

This is a full working tabacco pipe. The head is made with glazed ceramics, the mouthpiece is antique bronze glossy.

+

A pipe is definitely a matchmaker. It makes you look distinguished and sexy. Like a successful scientist, a confident playboy or an experienced sailor.
Yeah, tabacco is bad for your health, so use bubbles instead! Works even better cause it gives you a great lemon flavour, but this depends on the dish soap you use. The ladys will appreciate it!

Attention!
The pipe is made of two parts. You need to order both and mount it by yourself! You can find the mouthpiece here.
I would suggest e.g. Sugru (sugru.com) for the sealing.
Cause the pipe is made of glazed ceramic, there is the possibility that some of the glaze stuck the openings. In case of this, you need to grind or even drill this parts to clear it.
Please order the pipe only if you think you can handle this!

Please message me if you have any questions.

Charles Darwin's first ever sketch of a tree of life, in the shape of an actual tree, with finches perched on the branches. Each branch and minute detail of Darwin's original drawing is represented, and each finch represents the A, B, C and D marks on his sketch. The sketch appeared in his private notebook (“Notebook B on the transmutation of species,” 1837–1838).

From a side view, the shape of the tree matches perfectly with Darwin's drawing (look at the last image for a comparison). If you look carefully, you'll notice that each finch is slightly different, and the more apart they are from each other in the evolutionary tree, the more distinct the differences are.

A great gift for taxonomists, biologists, skeptics, humanists, atheists, lovers of nature and rational thought. Also a great gift for creationists, seriously, they'll love it! :)

The sketchy text on the same page of Darwin's notebook reads: "I think ... Case must be that one generation then should be as many living as now. To do this and to have many species in same genus (as is) requires extinction. Thus between A & B immense gap of relation. C & B the finest gradation, B & D rather greater distinction. Thus genera would be formed.—bearing relation."
